This winter I decided to redo my 1988 250R. I've always liked the look of a stock 88. All of the painted parts were powder coated, new tires, FMF SST pipe, all new bearings, clutch, new cables, etc. The plastic were pretty good when I started and I didn't think I should put new plastics on it because I an still going to ride it. Planning on a new seat next winter. Will post more pics later:D

Cool that's what I have been working on too, but not as thorough as you. The 88 250R is a sharp looking quad. Can't wait for pictures.

Thanks! would love new plastics but as I said earlier, I will still ride it and if it had new plastics I don't think I could bring myself to it! :D lol!

That is a nice job thus far. Do your 450 shocks not fit the other way? Mine clear my shrouds fine on my 86.

Thanks again, I haven't tried yet. I just assumed they wouldn't. Tomorrow I will try. Did your a arms bottom out the ball joints when you put the 450's on?

Wow, that is nice. You guys are doing a great job.
Can someone like GT Thunder work over those shocks to make them shorter for the 250r?

What color and brand powder did you use for the red?
How did you match it up?
Someday I would like to repaint my frame too.
I recently had Cosmic Quads replace my seat cover to the OEM look.

There is one place, maybe it was gt thunder, that will change shaft length, re-valve, add triple rates, ect. The whole 9 yards for like $365 or something like that, maybe next winter that will be a project. That's also another $365 though. :( We actually cut off the original ball joints and made costom fittings so we could thread aftermarket ball joints in. This was so that the a arms could be pc'd, but it also gave us some adjustability too. Now the ball joints don't bottom out like they used to. Can't complain.

The red is actually powder coat, along with everything else and I don't remember the #'s. I know the paint and pc #'s are different. I might be able to get the numbers for you though.
How do you like the cover from cosmetic quads? They were the people I was planning on going with. Did you send your whole seat to them, or have a cover sent to you?

I sent the whole seat in. It was $150. It has the OEM label looking warning on the back too.
She'll remove the old cover, repair the foam if necessary, install the new one and ship it back for that.

I had GT thunder redo my 450 shocks for my 450. They were shortened, triple rates, etc. I like them.

I know what you mean, it gets expensive. I had to buy a whole quad (an 86) to find red OEM 88 fenders. The ones on ebay were selling crazy high.

Really nice bike man I can tell that you didnt skip over any details. Would you say the 450 shocks are worth the price in the end with all the revalving, triple rating, etc? I am in the process of getting some stock replacements but it seems like in the end for a decent set your gonna spend 500 bucks plus.

They are pretty good and worth it for the money. They could use some work but for an average trail rider I would recommend them. I also like them because they keep the oem look. Just my opinion. :)
