so i fixed my head because the bolts were stripped out and compression was coming out the side..I rode it for about an hour and i noticed a strong vibration and it was bogging down right after you give it throttle. i was riding and gave it throttle to ride a wheelie and something snapped or banged and the whole quad shut off.. i tried to crank it and there was nothing... what do i do??? I have had really bad luck with this stupid thing and am begining to hate it....I JUST WANNA RIDE!

See if the engine will spin by taking off the bigger allen head cover on the left side of the engine and using a 17 mm socket. Make sure you spin it counter clockwise.

Could be anything. Dont blame the bike tho, you bought it used and someone didnt care for it-happens all the time.

Start by checking to see if it turns over by hand, then check compression and the timing chain for wear.

honestly, if your quad had never beem modified i dont think you would have had any problems with it as long as you owned it. after you start modding stuff, its just the nature of the beast.

Don’t blame the make, all things mechanical can break down, Hondas are one of the best and most reliable bikes out there. Even Honda can let a bad one slip through every once in awhile, and someone said you bought it used. I’m sure it’s frustrating though.

I tried to crank it and there was a little clank then nothing......i think i busted the rod cause the thing would have this crazy vibration and it would like make you hands numb like the rod was bent or something...i dont know....>!!>

Like I said before-thats what happens when you buy a used one and get one someone beat up.

A friend of mine found out the hard way, one he bought they stripped out every single bolt on the valve cover among other things and we have fixed it countless times. Matter of fact we just redid the topend tonight after he had it bored and honed for a 406 11:1.

Things break if they arent cared for, sadly most dont care for thier crap they just ride them till it breaks and they fix it enough to sell or unload.

so i tore it apart today and it turns out the rod broke apart from the piston. the little ring that holds it together came apart so the rod slid out from the piston and lodged in the cylinder. mean while the rod was still coming up and down smashing the piston and bending valves. i have some pics for ya.

How do you put pictures on this site..?

Post them on photobucket or tiny pic and link them.

I honestly think based on your info on what you found that your gonna have issues no matter what you do.

The rod is held onto the piston by the wrist pin, the wrist pin is held with a C clip-which generally do not come out.

Grab your rod like I said, does it have up and down movement? If it does you need a new crank.

i need a new rod, cylinder, valves, piston and bearings and probably a engine gasket kit and its not going to be cheap! i turned the rod and it seemed fine but the top of the rod is bent. the rest woks fine, i took it to be cleaned and fixed because we dont have the tools or i would have done it my self...

its probably cheaper getting another engine after all the labor they are gonna hose you for.

Sorry man, such as the way it goes sometimes. Gotta wonder if the person who did the work previously had a clue wtf they were doing.

Since it needs all those parts I highly suggest you dump the 440 kit and do a 416 or 426. Im not saying the 440 is unreliable, but they do produce heat like none other and the smaller bores dont.

Sorry man, that does suck. Nothing much you can do but rebuild it or sell it for parts and start over.

Andrew170-440ex

by the time your done you are gonna be able to do it in your sleep lol.

Search google and find a factory manual, it will help greatly.

i have a manual and it has helped alot....what im thinking is buying a 400 and dropping a bigger engine in it. that would be cool.

Keep your rolling chassis and drop in a crf450 engine. head over to the hybrid forum for more info-its a sweet ride.

to replace ur rod is going to cost big bucks and u can't do it yourself u need a special press to put it all back together again the makes sure al if the parts a perfectly lined up if it is off a hair some of the parts might hit the case when u try to turn it over. when they have it all open they would also want to replace all the bearings 2 when they are in it soo u would be looking at close to 200 dollers in bearings 70-100 for the rod and then 200+ for the labor and shipping of it it would most likely be a lot cheaper to just by a new one from e-bay and the build will go a lot faster.

that is only if u keep the engine u got
