im wondering what all has to be done to do this conversion. I just bought an 04 450r and like the feel of the 06 FCR carb alot better than the 04. Can i use the stock 04 Airbox and boot to the head? or do i need the stuff from the 06? and how about the throttle cable and throttle. if anyone has done this before id really appreciate some input. race season is coming FAST! thanks.

Carb boot to head will need to be off an 06 up, you will want to use the 06 up airbox and boot, throttle cable will work, and you will probably need a different hotstart cable. You will also need the 06 up tank and possibly a little trimming on your plastic gaurd underneath the tank.

you actually dont want to use the 06+ boot from the head to the carb, it is about 1/2" shorter and causes the carb to pull out even with a 06+ airbox. just port match the 05 intake boot to the FCR. If you want to use the 04 airbox you can buy the adapter that epoxies to the carb and allows you to use the 04 airbox.

alright....so use the 04 boot from the head to carb, and basically make it fit around the fcr. then i can use an 04 airbox with an adaptor. and with the 04 airbox is there any way to use the bigger air filter from the 06? sorry for all the questions. just want to make sure i got it all figured out before i start doing it.

With an airbox riser, the 06 head boot lets the carb sit pretty good. I like the 06 airbox cause the 06 filter is a lot bigger and easier to deal with than the 05 IMO.

most people cut the trim the top of the carb off to get clearance from the fuel tank.

well the carb that i got, the tank didnt need any work at all. it clears with about 1/4" clearance. its from an 05 YFZ.
