One of my friends is going to sell me an 2000 GSXR 600 for a very good price when I go home for the summer. I'm wondering if anyone knows about how much insurance is for one of those machines... I'm going to be 21 and am still dependant. I am also wondering what you guys think about safety wear, i plan on geting a jacket and helmet of course, but is there anything else that is necessary? thanks

When riding I believe everyone should wear FULL gear. When I had my CBR I wore my helmet, leather jacket, leather gloves, leather pants and riding boots.

As for insurance, I paid $196 a year for liability on a 2008 CBR600RR and I was 18 with a clean driving record.

thanks bud, 200$ a year isn't too bad, i had an accident 3 or 4 years ago when I was 16, so hopefully that doesnt kill me.

Motorcycle insurance is pretty cheap, depending obviously on the specific features you have, for several reasons.

Motorcycles are so easy to maneuver, they rarely get involved in accidents that are the fault of the motorcycle rider. Usually when a motorcycle is involved in an accident with another vehicle, it's usually the other vehicle's fault, and their insurance pays for it. If the motorcycle rider IS at fault, it very rarely ever injurs the other driver, so medical costs (the significant portion of insurance expenses) are almost non-existent.

Accidents that are the fault of the motorcycle rider are generally single-vehicle accidents, and your insurance isn't paying your medical bills just because you took a turn too fast.

As a result, motorcycle accidents are cheap for insurance companies. Now, if you want to add a policy that covers your medical, even if you're at fault, NOW you're talking big bucks.

I think I pay about $80 a year for my motorcycle insurance.

I just read an article about motorcycle crashes yesterday. 98% of motorcycle crashes, the other vehicle is at fault. And it was something like 87% of motorcycle crashes happen under 25mph.

go to progressive.com and get a quote, ive been looking at bikes and the insurance is cheap as long as you dont add colision to it, that pretty much triples the cost or more

I miss my old 600. Had a 2000 as well. Good bike.
