Houston, do I have a problem, Pic inside of something I do not understand

Bought this R a few weeks ago, mostly stock, I was in the process of fixing some leaks in the exhaust when I noticed this. For reasons unknown to me why anyone would have done this.

The big question is will this cause me any problems other and being a eyesore

I dont see a problem?
If your meaning the cut out in the front motor mount area. Thats normal. All cases have a similar cut out. Some are much larger.

Yes, the cut out is what I was talking about, I have had a few R's but never noticed any of them being that bad.

Thats completely normal. The older cases had that cutout, the newer ones were even bigger. Here is my later style case.

atv fan what year is that motor? I have an 86 and its like that are the 86's supposed to be that big or do I have a different bottom end?

That's normal. The 85/86's had the smaller cuttout, the newer cases had the larger one, don't quote me on the years, but I think the change was in 87. Its to clear they exhaust flange, I guess...
