Hey guys, I am new to this section but have been lurking here for a while. I was excited about the Typhoons when they came out 4 or 5 years ago. At the time, I decided to go in a different direction for my boys. But, I have renewed my interest and finally decided to get one. I have been watching Craigs lists about a month ago to find one locally.

Tuesday, I found one down by Detroit. Wednesday, I drove down to look at it. The guy was the original owner said it had less than 40 hours. It was clean looking but ran like crap due to a dirty carb. The guy wanted $1200, I got it for $1100.

I took Ride1Rob's advice and called Terry at firepower mini's. It turns out that Terry is only 12 miles away in Flint, MI. I told him I wanted more power for a trail bike but wanted to keep the E-start and auto clutch. He sold me a 114 high compression top end kit, a trailbike 20mm carb, plus various jets. He also is sending me the gasket, pin, and info to free the 4th gear.

My guys have never raced. We have ridden the yards locally but have also taken several trips riding the real ORV trails in Northern Michigan. Here are my 3 boys on the trails at Gladwin on their Eton Rovers. In Michigan you must be 12 years old to ride quads on state land. The Rovers didn't apply to that law and the boys were legal. My younger boys are now 13 and 10.

We will still keep these to foof on...

I just put the same set up on my sons 90cc Thyphoon. Runs great going to get the head ported and polished in June after a couple of races and possible put a new pipe on it. Read an article back from when they first came out and it stated a 10% gain by adding exhaust. I ended up going down to 87 main jet and up 1 position on the neddle . Had a little stall off the line but went away with a good warm up. Today I put the 89 main jet in it because when we ran practice at a mx track it seemed about right, but Adam didnt do a lot of down shifting in the corners and was loading it up pretty good.
We are going to run a TT race this weekend (weather permitting) so I thought I would up the jet one To keep it from being to lean. He should be wrapping it out pretty good its a long TT track. Good luck I think you will like the set up. We are going to play around with some gearing next week at a mx race. I will post the results of lowering the gearing.

Are you still running the stock head or one came with the bigbore? The stock 90 and 125 heads aren't much for porting. As for the exhausts don't get caught up into the big name brand pipes that run $300. There are some good $150 pipes that give the same performance gains.

Running the stock head. Tried to by the big bore race kit (with head and cam) from Terry at Firepower and he talked me out of it.I actually bought a 107 used cylinder and they bored it to 114cc. Better tolerances and then he threw a oil cooler in for same price as 114 kit.It was already notched for electric start also. The bike seems awlful hard to kick start and stock starter does a little groan. Starts as soon as you hit the button though. The motor is just for the start of our racing adventure. What was the name of the pipe you guys ran? Also adjusting the auto clutch, havnt noticed it slipping yet (knock on wood) but what way do you turn the adjustment screw to take slippage out of it? Can you adjust it to make it easier to take off on starts under higher rpm?

The Typhoon shifting is VERY notchy. It smoothes out the more you run the engine. It can be adjusted on the right side case cover but if adjusted too much it can cause you to burn up fibers.

Well I ended up pulling the motor, I couldn't get the clutch off without stripping the heads of the bolts. I ran it over to Terry at firepowermini's who said it is common for those clutch bolts to strip and that he has to drill them out all the time. He than wrenched the 114 high compression top end together for me. He also pinned the shift drum enabling the 4th gear. He also gave me a spark arrestor screen that he had in his shop which I retro fitted into the stock muffler can. The quad is now spark arrested legal, has 4th gear, and bigger power. :)

The laws in Michigan have been changed, and it is now legal to ride a quad on the side of the road in some of the northern Michigan counties. We are planning a week vacation at a cabin this summer and plan to take advantage of the law. One catch is the quad or ORV must have running lights. I bought a cheap Ebay light kit and installed it on the Xtreme, Banshee style.

Well, I haven't had a chance to verify the jetting that Terry at Firepowermini recomended yet. I planned to take it out today but it has rained all weekend. Once the jetting is verified, I plan to make and post a video of my boy throwing some roost with it. I can't wait...

The working lights...

My family went on vacation last week and I had a few clips of the Typhoon so I thought I would put something together and post them for you. My intentions while on vacation was just to "foof" around, up there, so our riding gear was a little more, "casual".

I planned to jet the Typhoon up there, which I did do, but was disappointed with what I call a flat top end. The quad pulls hard from idle thru mid range but seems to go flat on the main jet. I had previously found a restrictor ring welded into the stock pipe which I grinded out. This helped quite a bit but I still hope to get more top end punch out of it. I suspect something is still going on with that stock head pipe.

My boys could care less and just had fun riding the thing. The video follows...

u should really get kick plates for the back of the nerf bars, my lil brother broke his leg because he didnt have rear kick plates and his leg got between the nerf bar and tire,, snapped his leg right in half!

Both of my boys have enjoyed the new quad. I decided to look around for another Typhoon and one showed up on Craigs list that was 3 hours away.

I went to look at the quad yesterday and ended up getting it. The quad has a 150cc top end on it and runs great. Unfortunately, the clutch is worn out, slips, and need to be replaced.

I hope to take the engine over to Firepower mini's and have Terry put in a clutch. It looks just like the first one.

The boys got to ride their Xtreme 114cc and 125cc quads for the first time together. Terry at Firepower minis built both engines for me and they ran great. The latest quad was supposed to have a 150cc top end. Terry said the crank was shot but said he could make it work with a manual clutch kit. I wanted to keep the auto clutch and asked him for suggestions. He ended up piecing together a 90 based lower end with a 125cc top end, I think.

We just did a break in and trial run for the boys and ran the quads locally at their uncles farm. The boys loved them and are ready to go again.

I made a video of my guys. Neither of my guys are very aggressive and are just learning about shifting and are new to quads. Nobody got hurt and the quads didn't break, a good day.

Yesterday I took my younger boys north to the Gladwin ORV trails. We rode for about 3 hours up there. There is still no safe ice on the lakes and we haven't had much snow this winter. I made a short video of the ride.

I brought back Herb from my other vids, he is a Youtube pitchman, ready for one more try at selling a product. He probably isn't apprpriate for a kids riding video, but my kids never watch my stuff anyway. We had a fun day.

I took my boys and their quads riding in the snow yesterday locally at my Uncles place. I have spent many hours getting their quads ready for a Christmas break ride. The quads are Xtreme 114cc and 125cc quads and both engines are modified with BB kits, head work, 26mm carbs. We just spun around in the snow and had a great day.
