As some of you probably know, I've been wanting to get a better exhaust for my Walsh YZ. I had a friend that gave me an old beat up Dasa for a YFZ to try out (Thanks again Chris!) and I just put it on to see how close it'd be to working......and it was a lot closer than I expected!

But I did see a few issues.

1) The header is REAL close (if not touching) to the bottom radiator hose. I had a bottom hose and spigot from a YFZ laying around and it looks like it would help the problem. Does anybody know if the spigots are interchangeable between the YZ and a YFZ?

2) The pipe is almost as big as the space between the rear shock and the frame. In fact.....every way I moved it, it's pretty much touching one or the other. It's also REAL close to the line going from the master cylinder up to the resivior on the airbox.

I'm curious what exhausts other people are running on Walsh YZ's. What are my options? I was wanting to use one of the GYTR pipes like I had on my YFZ. I know a lot of people used the YZ head pipe with the resonator on it for the YFZ. I figured if a Dasa YFZ pipe would work, I should be able to make about any YFZ pipe work right? I know I'll have to move the mounts, but if that's all I have to do........I can probably arrange that. I can't weld very good at all, and don't have much access to any decent fabrication tools so the less I have to modify, the better.

glad you posted this as i have wondered too... I'm pretty sure mine is a yfz450 sparks exhaust. i too wondered what options we have and what anyone else had! mine is super tight between the shock and frame as well.. anxious to see what others say!

on a side note i like your kickstarter better than mine.. is it a yz250 or do you know? mine has the crooked bend in it and is alot longer...

Get a yz/wr master cylinder from 2003 it gets rid of line and reservoir, the spicets interchange. A yfzr radiator hose would work better FYI

I think it's a '98 YZ250 lever. It looks like the same lever as the one I had on my YFZ and I'm sure it was a '98 YZ250 because it was the only kicker lever that cleared the fender.

JR3- I'd rather stay away from the TC exhaust. I know a lot of people like them, but I can't stand them. They are WAY too loud for my taste. I used to ride with a guy that had one, and riding next to him gave me a headache because of that TC. I've got a cut down FMF now.......it's not that bad, but I would like something that's a little better quality.

JHF219- I forgot all about the YZ/WR master cylinder. I remember a lot of people used to put them on YFZ's just because the resivior was built in. Also, I didn't know that about the YFZ-R radiator hose. I'll have to look into that. Thanks!

One other thing, the spicet from the head of a 2006 yz450 is a right angle neck. It will point down under the exhaust, and give you more clearance for getting the radiator hose away from the exhaust.

yz and yfz spigots interchange. I had the walsh yfz water pipe on my hybrid.

I was able to run yfz exhausts on the PRP, by just making bracket for the muffler to bolt to the subframe. My head pipe cleared everything.

Curtis sparks yfz450 pipe, yfz450 spigot, yfz450 rad hose..... problem solved:macho

Depending on your subframe, you might have to fab a new mount for the can. But thats not a biggie.

I knew you 2 guys had some experience with this.

Justin- The mounts on the Dasa can I tried are REAL close. In fact, the rear one is just right. I was kinda thinking it'd be easier to cut the mounts off and re-weld them onto the can in the right place wouldn't it? Also, with the Sparks.....does it fit between the frame rail and the rear shock any better?

I have a rossier exhaust from a YFZ that I am trying to sell, PM me if interested.

While different motor, I just purchased a new Sparks exhaust for my Walsh CRF hybrid.

The space between the shock and frame rail is so close, but fits. I did not tighten any mounts, just held in place.

All mounting holes line up perfectly and as I mentioned, it just fits between the frame and shock. I do not regret buying it new from them. Only took about 2 weeks.

Yeah, I'd thought of a Sparks. I had them build me one when I had a LSR CRF. I've also go a friend with a Sparks for a YFZ that he said he'd sell cheap.

I really want a GYTR though. A buddy of mine gave me a GYTR he had that's broke up pretty bad just to see if I'm gonna be able to make it work. I haven't had time to mess with it a whole lot yet, but it seems to be about as close as the Dasa is. I might have to dent the sides a little between the shock and frame, and I know at least one of the silencer mounts will have to be moved.....but I think it'll work. I'll post back when I get to try it out.
