alright guys hit a dilemma. theres a guy near me with an 05 450r stock as far as i know wanting to trade for a 400ex. i guess its just to much bike for his son. my 400 is an 05 and i asked him what year he's looking for and he said any year as long as it isnt beaten. most likely i'll gear this thing way down due to tight trail riding. but some more arm ripping power would e sweet in the dunes. THINK I SHOULD DO IT?

if you want an r, go for it! the r will def be a nice machine in dunes especially.

The 450r with the kickstart is the best one out there, Id already of traded.....lol.

id realllllly like the extra power for the dunes but not sure on how it would be for trails and building trails? im sure if i threw some retarded gearing on i'd be fine haha. so everyones thinking go for it? planning on some possible XC races this summer too.......but i also do alot of dunes..i just ride alot of everything :D :p

Normally Id say keep the 400 and buy the 450r but if you have to trade, say bye to the 400. Just no comparison after you get into it....

from you guys that have ridden the 450's is first and second pretty long or how are the gears/gearing in these things?

If you are gonna run it in the woods Id gear it down 1 tooth in the front. Loads of pull and that will definitely help in the dunes where you automatically lose power due to lack of traction. I geared mine down even though I rode the track mostly because its just got more torque. Trade, ride it, and see for yourself. Thats what Id do....

i think i might have to go for it..ahh i'd miss the old 400 though! ha just got it in october too but it seems kinda slow and i know it'd be better to buy a 450r then mod. i was thinking maybe gear down to a 12 or 13 and i'd be good? thanks for the info guys just tring to do my research :)

I'd go for it, see how you like it stock. Once you get used to the power you won't have a problem

Add a stage 1 cam and different front sprocket if you like too.

If I saw that and my parent's would let me trade I would have done it in a heart beat or even faster! I love my 400, but the extra power would be better.
