Need some help from my Honda Mechanics.
My brother has 05 450r, That not every time, but quite often when he shifts into any gear, it falls back into neutral. shift forks are new, shift drum is new, nothing is noticeably worn, or broken.
Any ideas what is going on here? Thanks in advance.

my best guess is the dogs on the transmission gears are prolly worn and rounded causing it to pop out of gear
Its a 4 stroke, I had to. Good luck:D

Bent shift forks generally make it difficult to shift, it won't go into gear. But it sounds like you're shifting just fine, but it won't STAY there. So I'm thinking shift forks aren't the problem.
Could be the engagement dogs, could be the shift drum.

Be sure the shift lever is not set too high. Otherwise you may not be traveling the lever far enough everytime. I have run into this with a crf450 bike. Set it as low as you can. That way you always upshift completly.

The new ones are also sensitive to how the thrust washers are installed. Becareful not to have the washers flipped around the wrong way.

def the dogs. I'd check those first. My last race of the year a year ago I couldn't get the 450 to stay in gear. Replaced many of the parts, but the dogs were the problem for coming out of gear under load.

some thing could not be installed correctly. I had that happen on my LT 250r... it was a PITA for me.... she went down the road...

I had a 04 450 and motor blew still had original tires the guy only drove it on the street Honda rebuilt or replaced the motor but anyway 3rd gear would POP out some times along with 4th gear from time to time but it was mainly in the sand . I sold it to make my car go faster hint hint
