if the 1988.1989 is shorter does that mean that it would make the back end would sit up higher than using a 1986,1987 dogbone my bike has a 1988 swingarm with 86 dog bone linkage with 88 rear shock

It would sit lower to the ground with 86 dog bone

I am wondering the same thing.I put a 88-89 length swingarm on my 86 and I still have the 86 dogbone.Should I change dogbone to 88-89 to have the "proper" setup,or is it fine the way it is?Not done with the build and havent ridden it yet.

I know a few people run 88/89 swing ARM and shock with 86 linkage. they say it gets them a little more travel and makes the rear sit lower. I believe they only get more travel because the linkage acts as a lever and makes the shock stiffer the farther you get into the travel and the 86 gives you more leverage. That's why you are not suppose to use a dual or triple rate shock with a linkage setup. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone can correct me.

It's a Laeger made for 86-87 shortened 1 inch..

Then you have a -1 legear for an 86. Unless if it is a custom one that they moved the linkage mount on the swingarm....hell who knows if the mounts are the same between the two swingers???? Maybe the bones are different lenghts to compensate for the linkage mount change on the swingarms.....and the shock angle never changes between the two styles....the two different ride heights are because the bone changes lengths....not because geometery is change on the swingarm......just a hypothesis

I ran a 86 linkage and dogbone on that Laeger arm. Here is the stance of the bike, all it needed was a good shock.

I can tell you that 88/89 shock, 86 linkage and 85 swinger don't work good together. It bottomed way too easily. I got a 87-89 dogbone and it solved it. many don't know, 85 is mostly and one year setup only, 86 has different bushings and bottom bolt, 87 has a shorter shock and dogbone, 88/89 uses same linage as 87, but has a shorter shock and different dogbone-swingarm bolt. I use a 86 trx shock(elka valved for swingarm) and 86 linkage on my atc250r w/+1 swinger. For the quad, 88/89 swingarm, 87-89 linkage and elka 88 shock.

I'd take that with a grain of salt. I'll contact Mark and get back with you.
