they also said that they recorded the wave, after the innitial quake, to be moving at speeds of near 600 mph...which is just truly astonishing if you honestly think about a wall of water moving that fast across the ocean...

It's not necessarily all about the size. Just think about how much water that really is and the force behind it. I mean personally, I know first hand what waves can do since I almost drown from em a couple years ago.

and its not like its just a tall wave with little width or length to it... its more like a sudden rise in water level and it just starts moving towards the land...

Japan Quake Map (http://www.japanquakemap.com/) will show you the intensity and areas affected by the quakes that have hit Japan since 3/11/11.

In many of the vids on youtube you can see people barely escaping in their vehicles, boats making frantic attempts to turn into the wave so they do not capsize and people scrambling up hills on foot. Because of the typhoons (hurricanes) that pound us every summer I have never had a desire to live close to the water. After watching the devastation from the quake/tsunami, I will definitely never ever own property that is between sea level and 100ft above sea level in Japan or any place that is close to the shore.

I forgot you live in Japan. What's it like where you're at right now?

As for riding it out, looks like the best thing you could do if you got caught in it is get on top of a house and ride it like a boat.

Wow 250, that map gave me the chills. I couldn't fathom what it is even like over there.

I'm on Okinawa, 1300 miles south of ***ushima and Sendai, so the quake/tsunami didn't do any damage down here. We also do not feel any of the aftershocks that are rocking the main island right now. We do get quakes down here but the strongest that I have felt in the last 10 years is about a 5.5 that didn't do any damage.
