Just picked up this 1986 R as a roller last weekend for a new project. Decent shape overall, but I've already stripped it down to the frame to begin the rebuild process. I'm not going to get crazy with it, probably will reuse most stock parts to retain the OEM look/ride.

Also picked up a motor and carb last night. I'm going to have to post up pictures of the carb and see if anyone can help me identify it. I have searched but can't find any info as to the the specific model. The guy I bought it from thought it was stock and threw it in with the motor for no extra charge, but I knew it wasn't stock because it's marked "PWK V398..." I can't recall the rest off the top of my head and I don't have it with me right now. Been a while since I had an R but IIRC they came with 34mm PJs, not a PWK.

That's what I was thinking too, but I don't have any calipers to verify. I thought I could match it to part #s online but I can't find a single result when I punch the number into Google

Here's some engine and carb pics. The part # on the carb is PWK V398CA16. I can't find any info on it, so if anyone knows about it please let me know!

Engine is out of an 87 and is bored .050 over with a Wiseco 67.25mm pro-lite piston

Got the motor cleaned up, cases are ready for polish. I'm going to paint the inners. Also purchased a new flywheel and stator for it.
Cylinder is getting bored this week to .060 over. Frame will be PC'd silver in 2 weeks, I'm going to paint the swingarm and A arms black with our gun

why are you boring it .060?

It is at .050 over right now, but the grooves at the top of the piston are completely worn down on the exhaust side. Ring end gaps were awful, this thing probably had zero compression.

Since .080 is the max bore, I decided to go with .060 now to leave some life in it for later on down the road.

You can bore it up to .140 over (69.50mm) if you use an 86 piston and spacer plate. Lots of life in that cylinder yet!

That's something I will keep in mind later on down the road. Right now I just want to get it together and have a nice, reliable bike for the summer.
