okay so I am having a lot of work done to my 400ex after the crankshaft bearing seized and the crank is going to be replaced and it will be a 426cc total (416 before) with 11 to 1 compression, and also will be adding a edelbrock 38 mm flatslide carb, and a curtis sparks exhaust, and with existing mods like the cdi box and with no airbox lid and with airfilter( dont remember the brand) and a stage 2 cam (maybe more that i cant think of right now..) with all that will I need more plates in the clutch?? I do already have heavy duty springs..will those be enough?

Hmmm... You can't just " put " more plates in the clutch... It just doesn't work like that. You won't need to do that... Don't get the edelbrock, just get a FCR TRX450R carb... its easier to do and much cheaper.

well I know you cant just put more plates in..theres a kit that curtis sells that is an 8 plate instead of the 7 so i would have more surface area. and I already own the carb it came with the bike just wasnt installed yet. lol

Oh... lol I would invest your money and other areas than that clutch kit.

maybe a sparks timming key other than that you already gonna have LOTS of power haha

lol ok..I would like to know..
I heard the timing key is pretty beast...would love to have it but idk if it would be too much with a CDI..

Cant, you have to high of a compression piston.

really!?

Right off thier website man, says you cant use it with a hi-comp piston

Reason being is it generates WAY to much heat.Sparks Racing Key (http://www.alwaysopenmall.com/layouts/02/unsecure/item.asp?SiteID=223&DepartmentID=85&CategoryID=949&GroupID=7033&ItemID=31633&StartNum=1&Sort=&ShowPics=0&ListByCode=1&Brand=&GenderAgeGroupID=0&MaxPrice=&SearchString=&ItemCode=&IsOnlyOnSale=0&FromHomePage=0&FromFamily=0&ProductFamilyID=0&RelatedItemID=0)

wow.. ok...well dang..does anyone make like a 4 degree key? would that run cooler? or still a bad idea?

Forum member wheelie makes a run of 3 degree keys every so often-but he says it needs 110 race fuel and 11:1 may still be to high.

Best thing to do is jet the bike right, good free flowing exhaust, 450r or fcr39 carb and proper sprockets for the type of riding you do.

well I do already run 110..lol
and isn't my 38mm Edelbrock enough? lol

^Yep. Although an FCR39 or 450r carb is better tho-specially the FCR.

Not much more you can do really to make it faster other than major motor work. Why do you need anything more?

I'll just thought the 450r carb was hard to install..idk bout the FCR..
idk..lol
what if I did over sized valves? would i get a lot more power? can I do that?

nope, hi comp piston is domed, will hit the valves.

450r carbs rather easy to install, it basically a larger version of the 400EX carb.

Your basically at the limit as far as power goes unless you do an even larger carb, stroker or 440.
