KFX450R hummmmmm

Well i've always rode honda sport bikes, sold my 450r a few months back and got a 07LTR(LOVE IT), So today me and my buddy went to our local Kawasaki dealer to see how the KFX ride and run. Well i all i have to say is JUNK i truly think my old 400ex would smoke it. handled like crap. theres only one thing i like about it reverse. It was a 11 bike brand new are they all like this slow?????

They are deffinetly not the fastest out of the box but once you trash the stock intake tube and put a 15t front sprocket on it its like a whole new quad.
The stock intake is extremely restricted and the stock 14/38 gearing is way to short.
Even stock a 400ex would not touch it i dont care what you say.

Well I have to say that even with stock gearing mine will run with plenty modified atv's in the 450 range.

After 5 XC races on my KFX in 2 months, I've yet to be out pulled off from in a straight away...

All I've got is a slip on and an air filter.

I'm not "proud" or trying to say my kfx or I am fast, but trust me when I say that in a practical application, ala trail riding or XC racing, a stock kfx is just as good as any other stocker.

All have their pros and cons, but I promise its not going to be lacking power in the woods comparatively. Come ride mine if you need to see. I'll be at the Loretta Lynn's GNCC April 29-30th.

The 400ex is no turd. They are bullet proof. Top speed does not matter. That was a very stupid comment. Just my opinion though. They handle really well also.

Everyone has their opinion. Ride what makes you happy.

Our riding club has several KFX450's. I respect them. Of the 450's in the club they seem to be one of the better "all-arounders" from tight trails to open dunes. While 450's in general aren't a fit for me personally, there is no denying that any of the 450's (KFX included) will just plain run away from my 400ex in anything but tight trails.

In the end, ride what you like, like what you ride, respect your fellow rider, and the sport will be a better for it. JMHO.

Almost everyone I know rides a 400ex, Honda 450r or a Yamaha YFZ... The ones who do have other stuff are often repairing it, while we go riding lol. Speed isnt everything, handling is.

Real shame when my 200 dollar used turd keeps on going but your nice and pretty 7000+ dollar machine breaks down

I used to have a 400ex, loved the thing, but it just wasn't cutting it, so I bumped up to the Kawi. Couldn't get comfortable on any other 450 except the Kawi.

Yeah, with the right rider, a 400ex can beat a 450, not in a drag though. I raced my 400 and all I had were tires and nerf bars and I would beat guys on 450's, but because I was a better rider and they were goons lol. I'd like to have another 400 to putt around on in the trails, but the economy sucks and having 2 quads wouldn't be right for me right now.

CJM..your right, handling is everything. But you said others with other stuff is breaking down or they are repairing them. Is it because they don't maintain them? Anyone can own a quad/bike and it will break over and over if they don't keep it maintained.

Im not quite sure why, maybe its a brand loyalty thing why so many have a yami or a honda, IDK.

I do know many that do have them spend alot of time repairing the zukis and kawis-maybe they dont care for them well IDK.

i have a 07 ltr beat the piss out of it and i also have a 08 kfx... my kfx gave me more troubles so far. fuel issues mostly... my ltr has not had one issue period. i have prolly thousands of hrs on my ltr and no tranny issues... like someone befor stated. they all have pros and cons and to each his own. i personally think the ltr is much better mx and the kfx woods quad and thats what i ride them for. the ones saying this is junk or thats junk prolly had one bad experience or heard a rumor... ride em like there intended to be rode and they will last forever. the people blowing third are overreving and thouroughly beating there machines... i watched a yfz loose third last week on the track.... its how you ride.

and to the guys bashing the 400ex i have had one that i sold for my ltr that was faster than and handled better than my stock ltr. but it was a fully built 460 stroker with mx suspension and it beat almost every 450 i lined it up to.... there again stock yep its a turd but who rides stock? all my riding buddies have built 400exs and they keep up just fine.. its only the straights i really can lose em and the spots were they need a little more rippin power they wont do as well but without the 400ex todays 450 racers wouldnt be were there at today.... a little rerspect for a classic guys cmon....

As an experianced rider I learned you can never judge a quad in stock form, powerwise they all suck and handling gets better with shocks setup for a rider. Yeah the stock kfx is garbage, After exaust and intake mods it was one FUN machine, gearing would make it even better. Overall, the kfx is a great quad after the big 3
