I've been rebuilding a 2005 400ex from the ground up, which I started last October. However, its been so long I don't remember where all the pieces went.

Can anyone post any pictures of the front around the steering stem/oil cooler so I can see how pieces bolt up, cables/hoses are run etc. ?

This is what I've done and where I'm now.

This is the best I can do. The parts microfiche on hondaparts-direct.com has blow up pictures of everything. Its all exploded views but you get the idea. I believe the manual has pictures as well. Thats all I used. Good look and NICE build. Is the header ceramic coated or just clean???? Thats a SPOTLESS motor man!

Its a White Bros. pipe that I had ceramic coated and well for the motor... the previous owner would spray the whole quad down with WD-40 and the thing looked like crap once it all baked in. The motor was wire wheeled and sprayed with VHT FlameProof Coating Cast. I'm just hoping it doesn't flake all off.

Do you happen to have any pictures of like the head light mount, electric stay?

And just for curious people here are some more pictures of the build.

I wont be runnin a headlight so no pics there. The VHT should work fine thats what I did and ive had mine hot and it hasnt changed a bit. I'd just say avoid the pressure washer.

Who ceramic coated your header and what did it run ya? I want mine done but cant find anyone local.

Keep up the good work man. Check out my build as well when ya get a chance.

Ah I see. I wish I could find someone in central illinois that ceramic coated. Dang.

The headpipe on mine immediately changed color after I started it, even with 2000 degree VHT paint. Motor still looks good though.

One thing to keep in mind with a painted motor is you need to get it really hot several times before you ever actually ride it in the dirt. When you get the head and cylinder hot the paint gets sticky and will pick up ANYTHING floating around in the air. After its been hot and cold several times it gets baked on better and doesnt liquify as much or become sticky. Just any FYI so you dont have random dirt and crap stuck to your head fins.... :)
