I am thinking of getting myself a cheap used 2 Stroke bike when i'm done this semester of college, just to play around on when i'm not riding my 400. I looked on CL and found a ton of 125's for just over a grand. I'm just wondering if anyone has advice on this subject, like what brand and if 125's are even worth it or if i should try to get a 250. I am a honda man, but i may be able to be persuaded away lol, since it seems like most 2 stroke bikes are created equally lol! thanks

If you have little ride time on two wheels go with the 125. They're all pretty equal, pick your favorite color and best priced. I personally like the YZ's.

1998 and up YZ'z, 2000 and up CR's, 2000 and up KX's is what I would be looking for no Suzukis or KTM's

My first ever experience with a bike was when i bought my '01 KX 250.... Needless to say i'll never get an adrenaline rush like that from a quad. I love the freakin thing!!! Get a KX, best brand for bikes is Green!!!

well i'm not really a beginner on a bike, I started out on a pw80, and had an rm100 a couple years ago, and that thing was a rocket. I'm pretty much just looking for something i can have some fun on, and i really want another 2 stroke! lol

What is the difference between a 2001 yz125 and a 2003 yz125? I see that the 03's are lighter but is there any other significant differences?

Pretty sure they just changed the geometry and started using aluminum frames??? I am just guessing...

I could be wrong but I don't think they had the aluminum frames in '03 yet.. but that would be awesome if they were aluminum because I found a good deal on an '03!

You will love it. I sold mine two weeks ago. I miss it like crazy but being unemployed left me with no choice. They are great fast bikes!

Actually the kid texted me last week and said he seized the motor. I had about 40 to 50 hours on that bike never had one problem. He gets it for one week and junks it.

If you're over 150 lbs. I wouldn't waste the money on a 125. I hate those things and always have. They make all kinds of noise and go nowhere. Buy a 250 two stroke, much easier to ride, lower maintenence, broader spread of power. Or if you're feelin really brave you can pick up a 500. Once you ride one you'll never want anything else.

Yeah, that shows me nothing but a little weedwacker motor making a bunch of noise.:D, so don't do the whole eye roll thing at me. Ride a real bike and see how much easier it is. See that CR500 in the sig below, now that goes somewhere. So if you're over 150 lbs. and older than 14, look for something bigger than a 125.

Im just givin ya a hard time! I would never touch a 500 though.. seems a little excessive. 125's and 250fs are for me

the newer ktms are powerhouses. i personally prefer the yz125 and kx125 over the others. the cr's powerband is too short. and i hate suzuki. the yz has a beautiful powerband and handles so nicely, while the kx has a good powerband. the handling on the kx was decent. i owned one. once i got used to the bike i could hammer it, but it wasnt just jump on and go like the yz was for me. i'm talking about year ranges from 98 and up

I was 20 and 220 on my 125. I could clean 80 footers. A 125 is just right for someone who is looking how to ride a bike. Its very forgiving and still has lots of power. It teaches you how to ride. I have to disagree with you're statements.

New project :D The engine is apart waiting for a hot rods crank and new piston to be installed. Does anybody know where I can get a cheap cylinder?

The biggest arguement I hear about the 500 is that it doesn't handle very well............................neither does a top fuel dragster, but it's still fun. :D But seriously, I've ridden many 125's, along with a lot of 250's and a few 500's, for even a novice rider, I think a 250 two-stroke would be a better bet in the long run. I know 125's are capable of going pretty fast, but it just seems like too much work to keep working the clutch and constantly looking for the right gear. But I'm old too, so the has some bearing on my opinion.:)
