I race TT and want to lower my bike without using a lowering link. I've researched and found that the '04-'05 rear 450r shock is .5"-.75" inches shorter than the 400ex shock. What happens when you run the 450r linkage with 400ex swingarm?

Would a dual rate rear 450r shock and linkage work on the 400ex or is the geometry too different? I'm not worried about hitting the air box with the swingarm because I'm getting rid of the airbox and I can modify my subframe and move my exhaust to avoid clearance issues.

I'm really just trying to get the rear end down to 4"-5" without using a lowering link and still have a great rear shock set up.

Lowering kit, or sport bike shocks.

cbr600 and R1 from what Ive heard, I just bought a $40 cbr600 rear shock for mine, waiting for delivery.

I have a durablue lowering kit for sale.

I've already got a lowering link and it worked, but the linkage hung down really low and I still have a stock 400ex shock lol. Didn't know if a reworked 450r shock would be an improvement or not.

I recently blew my EX shock, couldnt find a used one for a decent price so I nabbed a 450r rear shock.

It lowered the bike about 1 inch or so since its about 3/4 shorter than the EX shock. 1/2 change in length over stock means a 1 inch change in ride height.

i kept the 400ex linkage on my because the 450r linkage was way too low for my taste.

450r shock and linkage with ex swingarm is pretty low.

I got an 04/05 rear shock to try, since it was shorter. Mine did not fit at all. The reservoir hit the the frame and wouldn't allow either the 450r or 400ex linkage to attach to the shock. I turned it around to see how much it lowered it and it only lowered about an inch, so its still too high for me. Just wanted to let everyone know.

its not an upgrade at all to use a 450r shock. Both the EX and 450r shock are pretty much the same overall. Only reason why I even bought a 450r shock was b/c it was cheaper than most of the beat up EX shocks I found on ebay.

if you wanted to spend the money, the GT thunder linkages will lower your ride height by about 2 inches by just bolting it on. its shaped different than the stock linkage but clearance shouldnt be an issue if your just flat track racing. but if you are hitting any jumps then you would need to get it revalved cause it makes the shock really soft.
