Hi guys and gals i just bought a 03 400ex, i have searched the forum and couldnt find a leak like mine. I have an oil leak between the cylinder and the crankcase on the right hand side of the engine underneath the header. I did find , while i was searching, that the studs can pull out and was wondering if that could be a cause of this leak. I havent tore the top end of the engine yet because i need to get my yfz running first. but im just looking for somewhere to start and advice is greatly appreciated.,

Thank you
Alan

check the cam chain tentioner valve screws. theres one with a phillips bolt and 2 other regular bolts. millips head bolt fell out and i would leak 1 quart in 30mins of rding. you might have a bad crankcase gasket btw

yea im thinkin the gasket may be bad because i can clean it all off then start it and watch it bead up right on the base of the cylinder

Maybe he knew it did it and figured he'd get rid of it... that's a problem buying used... sometimes you make out and sometimes you don't.. did he do any work to it??

he said a mechanic put a head gasket on in and it was leaking when he got it back i dont know how reliable that is but for $650 i figured i couldnt pass it up

Sounds good... as long as it's not gonna be a money pit...
