hey.. since this is the steering forum, i had a question to ask... i have a 250X & when i steer it makes a loud annoying clunk. i checked the ball joints & its not that.... any help would be good!

another thing, my rear shock is pretty much facked up, i heard a YZ80 shock would fit & work very good, is that true & what other shocks would fit?

i dunno about the shock, but look at the a-arm bushings, when you turn the bars look to see if the a-arms move back and forth at the mounting place.

i checked it out, its not that... its the steering stem.. at the bottom, it moves up & down.. is there a bearing or bushing there?

It is probably the bearing (part 12). I had one making a clicking noise like you described and I found that the bearing had cracked on the outside.

pull it apart and check it out, simply pull the cotter pin out of the very bottom, then loosen that nut and remove, unhook it up near tha handlebars and pull it out. You can then check if its your bearing (that would be my guess, but relax its only like 10 bucks)

As for why it moves up and down, i have no idea, is that nut on bottom tight? Are the two bolts up near the handlebars tight?

its the bearing, when it gets all old and worn out it will let the stem move up and down a bit, it only costs 10 bucks but it is a pain in the ace to put in.

it's the bearing at the bottom. i had to do mine when i first got my 400ex. when i took it out it was in peices, there was nothing left of it and it was kinda hard to get out. on a 400 ex you flip the quad up on the grab bar and force the bearing up not down. idk if it explained that well.

a yz80 shock may bolt up but chances are its gonna be WAY too soft for a 350 pound quad.

Did you check the tierod balljoints? Those are very common to come loose on the 250x's and 300ex's.
