Rear axel nut

so i have a 2001 400ex if you are looking at the rear axel from the back on the right side of the brakes you have that big nut along with the other one i was just curious how to get them tight because mine keeps coming loose i have had them locked together before and i heard people using electrical tape to hold them in place. i was told it is a common thing to happen with it i was just curious are they both supposed to be to the right side of the axel or the left side of the axel

i found when i tightened mine too much it woldnt allow the axle to spin freely so i had to back it off a bit. it still comes loose so i may try some red thread locker on it next time i tighten it and see if that helps
