the ideal way to do it is to put a 426 sleeve in it but they are getting harder to find. it gives more sleeve to help with heat and dissipation of that heat with a thicker sleeve. Im not sure what you could bore a sleeve to though, i dont think ive heard of anyone actually boring a 426 sleeve over to tell you the truth. you could probably get another 426 with over rings on it if it wasnt bad enough to need a bore but there really isnt much left after a 426 up to a 440. someone has a 88.5mm that would work in it with a bore though most likely. JE has one for sure but im not sure what the deal is with them.

99% of the guys running a 426 just bore the stocker out and run it that way. as long as it is cooled well there really isnt a whole lot of issues with them when done correctly.

I bored mine to 428 or what ever u want to call it in the stock sleeve, ran a Wiesco 11:1 for over 2 years, ran an raced it hard. Ran perfect an when I decided to go to a 440 (wish I hadn't) the piston an cylinder was still in great shape, I did run 100 octane aviation fuel, very clean...

whats wroung with the 440? I had one till the rod came a part. now we are building a 426 and a 440..... trust me when I say this my 440 would flat out fly..... and put out some sweet mph around 85mph.

Thanks for the info.

I needed to change to heavy duty studs with the 12.5:1 440 an didn't...messed up my cylinder an now have a 406 which is faster....sorry but I don't trust your 440 goes 85mph....its gearing an not a 440 that makes a ex faster on top...unless your running 16/34 sprockets with 22" tires.....an then your your going to be so slow on bottom...
