i have a 07 400ex i just put a stage two hot cam and a wisco 10-1 piston i adjusted the valves cold like it said 13 intake and 15 exhaust . the quad runs great and does not smoke , but the valves are ticking , not real loud but still the same .i know the 400 valves tick i just think that they are a little louder than before , i just need to know if it because the valves are open longer or do i have a chain issue . thanks

13 , 15 what??? Is this motor so different than my 99' or 2001?

intake is .10mm or .004"
ex. is .12mm or .005"

Maybe the newer 07' motors are made different.....?????

Dragon... those are for stock cams... aftermarket cams i believe use differet specs... but the 07 engine is not too different...

.015-.013 is for the break in... when you'll be done you can bring it back to OEM spec and the tik sound will be more normal but it will be louder than stock cam... cuz the cam have much more agressive lobes..

i thought stock spec was .04 - .05

with an aftermarket cam you will hear a tick. It is normal, i also have a 07 400ex 416 11-1, stage 2 hot cam, had it for 2 years now and it has ticked ever since i put the cam in. Dont worry about it, that is normal.

It's not, you're off by a power of 10. Stock spec is .004 inches intake / .005 inches exhaust.

When these guys are mentioning .015 and .013, they are referring to the spec in millimeters. It's the same thing as .006" / .005", which Hotcams wants you to use during the break in period.

sneaky11 and timp224 are absolutely correct. Set it at .005" intake, and .006" exhaust for the break in period with any Hotcam. After that is satisfied, you can return to stock specs of .004" intake / .005" exhaust (this will quiet the valve tap somewhat, but not a whole lot). Any time you install a Hotcam or more aggressive aftermarket cam in general, you are going to experience more valvetrain noise...it's the nature of the beast :o

i meant 004 and 005

Quick question. I bought the feeler tool .004 and .005 and i noticed after i got into the motor that i had a stage 1 hotcam.

After the rebuild, should i just put my valves at the stock setting? The stage 1 was ridden by me for 3 months before i got into the motor so i assume it's broke in.

Im running the stock setting with no issues at all with a stage 2. Once they are broken in hotcams says its fine to goback to factory specs.

Yeah .004-.005... your cam already got his break-in period so you don't need that again... break-in is only for new - never use cam.

I missed the Hot Cam....never knew that on them...I have a Web
Racing cam that I think is close to the stage 2 Hot Cam....I have always used the OEM valve settings, I run the hard surfaced rockers with it.....runs smooth, I have no ticking in my motor, at least nothing that I can tell.

I use .005/.005 before and after break in with no problems with a stage 2

If you return your valve adjustment to 4 and 5, your going to have a loss in power when your atv gets hot. I called hotcams about a month after i first installed them. The guy told me you could go back to stock specs and the ticking would go down, but as i said you will have a little power lost when you heat up your motor and everything expands. I run 5 and 6 all the time with no problems.
