I just had a new key cut, and it was only $5. But that was making a copy of one I already had. They shouldn't charge you more if they have to look it up. It only takes them a couple a more minutes to make.

less than 5$, if it's easy too remove take the switch with you, that will save you a trip if the key doesn't work

all you do to hot wire is unplug the ignition and plug the two wires togather. simple

I though there were 4 wires? Which ones get plugged together? And also i looked for the # on the switch and it wasnt there. Am I able to just take all my paper work with the VIN # and stuff to the dealer to have them do it?

Hot wiring your ignition is easy. My key asembly went out on my 400ex this weekend, and that's what I did to fix it. All you have to do is wire the red (hot) wire to the solid black (ground) and leave the lower black with a stripe wire alone. to test to make sure yours is the same, cut a piece of wire off and just stick it in the slots and try to start it first. If it works then just hard wire it. Also you'll have to disconnect your neutral light because it will constantly stay on.(it did for me). Then get out your electrical tape and go to town.

If you connect the wrong two you blow a fuse,so be careful. I was practicing, just in case I ever forgot my key.
