if you can do the work for a 350x motor you'll have yourself a ripper.

NO Question's about it 350x all the way!!! that's what I have 87 250x 350x hybrid..if you have the stuff to do one it's simple to do..All you need is a 350x CID BOX an you can use the 250x wiring. all you do on the wiring is the two wire plug that go's to the cdi box is to swap the two wire's around in the plug. And to mounting the motor(( All mounting bolt hole's will line up BUT you will have to cut one to make fit)) is to make some washer spacer's and you will have to cut alittle off the back the top mount of the motor ( where the bolt go's through the motor)And fab your head pipe and that's just about it

I've heard that the cam journals are known to get ate from the 350x cams

Maybe only if you starve it for oil..Because they do run on journal's and not bearing's.

I guess it depend's on how you take care of your quad..If you find one with a good head (meaning the journal's) I say do it. Just keep check on your oil level and don't starve it of oil.And another thing in the 350x owners manual. It say's how to check the oil is to crank it let it run for around a min. cut it off and then check the oil. If it show's anywhere between the high an low mark's it's good.
