Hi sorry to be asking so many questions but i wanted to build a 416 but idk if my dad will let me bore it that high so i was wondering how a 407 would compare? both would have 10.8:1 JE pistions, web cam, hd head studs, and hd timing chains...would the 407 alow me to run with bone stock 450s i can beat some of them now with my all stock 400 but still need alittle more power to catch the faster ones thanks

Never seen a 407 run, but remember, there's no replacement for displacement.

I've had both an have the 407....you will be ok with the 416, its not too much of a bore, I had a 428 for yrs that ran great....its tuff keeping up with any 450R on top end....I can't tell the diffreance between the 407 an my old 416....Beating any 450R with a all stock 400EX....who ever your riding or racing against doesn't know how to ride.

Yea i could defidently tell the not so good riders on 450s but i rubber class ice race with hossiers and it takes skill just as much as power i need to get better in both but i was just wondering whta bore would be the best

It goes 406,416,426,and 440 for bore sizes.

Theres no 428 or 407. And the whole theres no replacement for displacement theory has been proven wrong many times.

The 416 will have a little bit more power than a 406 but you will still have that one extra bore over if you do the 406.

edit: I just read the OP again and if you wanna run with the 450's Id recommend the 416 or maybe the 426. The piston and cam sound good along with the timing chain and studs. Maybe even do a port and polish, and make sure you have a good exhaust and intake.

Actually I've seen them called 406,407 an 408....the 426,425, 427 an 428....an the 440 isn't really a 440 at all, I think its really around 430....an you have two bore sizes to go after a 406, the 416 then the 427 before having to resleeve....ice racing....that sounds more like getting the power to the ground, an thats what a 400EX does well....

Your call really on what bore size you want, more compression tho will give you the power you want. Like I said in a previous post 10:1 and a sparks key should do you wonders along with a stage 2 cam.

depends on piston brand to what they read displacement as..wiseco reads as a 407 while others made read as 406..

imho i think a stock displacement up to like a 406 with +4 stroker would be better than any displacement higher than 416

There is also a 402 offered from Wiseco....

totally agree on that... 406 to 416 is not that much difference... what's gonna make you quiker is the compression ratio u'll get...
C/R = HP
Cam choice is really important... easy to overbreath, or choke the motor

I'll recommend the same thing as CJM, but got to go with the sparks X1 cam with a 406 or 416 10:1 with the spark key.

If you go 11:1 on the piston, run the Hotcam stage 2 or webcam 450/451-Gtthunder, forget the key, or put it in and run e85 or mix race fuel... $$$ u'll save on running pump gaz without the +6 key and race mix... put it on a 450r carb.
