the little red circles you see are spots i have to re weld because of small leaks

i didn't get time to ride it last weekend. too much work to do. It had just cmae back from a 1300 mile week trip my dad had tooken it on. It eats polaris x/xc 700's in the quarter mile.

Looks like its comin around. But im worried about that oil tank. I would of made one more like mxbubs. that one is going to block alot of air from the motor and will look a little weird.

forum
02-17-2003, 11:56 AM
trust me it will works well. I hav a huge radiator so over heating is far from a problem. I think it'll look good. it holds 3 litres. and keeps outa the way of my custom mount pep steering stabilzer that sits in the botom of the frame. thats why i built it like that. plus the more surface space will greatly enhance cooling

Ok well then that looks sweet cant wait to see it done.

Forum Im sure you have already thought of this, but in case you havent, Ill say it....

Make sure your radiator will not be too far forwared so that you steering stem hits it.

Make sure you go room for your nerf bars to get under the oil rezzy.

The best way to run that water line is under the head pipe if possible by buying the water exit hard pipe 90 coming out of the motor and putting it on the intake side....My aftermarket pipe doesnt have such a low bend, so it is easy to get underneath it, where as the stock head pipes come way down, so you may have to go over it.....I suggest ponying up and getting the Trinity pipe, Im glad I did.

Good luck, and dont give up.

forum
02-17-2003, 02:48 PM
i have a trinity on order. does the trinity bend more. like would i have more clearnce for my oil rezzy. ANd my rad has a good amount of space before it hits the steering stem. and my nerf bar mounts are welded to the side of my frame. so that isn't a problem either. thanks tho

Mxbubs
02-17-2003, 02:50 PM
The Trinity takes up ALOT less room....it comes out, 90's hard, and goes straight back....You will not be dissappointed...Let me know if you need anything, measurements, etc...

forum
02-17-2003, 02:51 PM
bubs can you post a pic of your machine with the trinity pipe. I want to see the bend on it

thats a helluva oil rezzy man, dont worry about the welds, if thats your first time, im sayin you done well, your right aluminum is really hard to learn to weld, i got the hang of it tho, just takes time, i know what your sayin with the heat not being a problem, i got one of those radiators from jrd. its a biggen looks real nice too. looks like its comin along real good man, i gotta get some pics of my crf re-conversion. good luck to ya.

im no expert, and im probably wrong but that rear shockmount looks a little weak

forum
02-18-2003, 06:03 AM
I thought the same thing. But the steel is 1/4 inch. ware as the stock one is less then an 1/8 I may put some horzontal braces. But i am guite sure it will hold. It is welded on both sides ware as the stock one is not.

why did u relocate tht bar to mount the radiator? why not mount the rator on the other side of the bar

forum
02-19-2003, 07:31 PM
because thats the chessy way out. Its the east coast atv way. and they cut some major corners. The way i did it let me use a way bigger radiator and gave me more room for other compnents. Its the same design as the 250r and arens 400excrf frame. same with bubs, I think all knowledgable people will agree that its the best way. Not saying your not knowledgable. im just saying.

thats what i thought, me and my friend were talking about it...

d-14 rider 27
02-19-2003, 07:52 PM
theres 2 ways of lookin at it, if you mount it to the backside of the tube, your not messin with the original frame design, but it is a stronger setup to go with what mxbubs, forum, and what im doing. ecatv conversiaons are pretty sad imo. but it'll work either way. plus you can lean the rad fwd with the regular frame style and it wont interfere with your plastic and you can get at the cap.

I thihnk just the plastic by itself looks to plain. Good. but plain. plus the red carbon fibre is trick. I almost went fulbore but my parts dealer gave me a good deal.

I finally got my front brakes bled down good, and the 250r calipers in the front stop much quicker than the stock EX calipers, you will be happy you went with them. I also have a 250r caliper on the rear. I ended up getting the Merrell Extreme calipers, I got the red ones, I really like them. They are basically all the same, just different colors (Baldwin's, Merrell's, etc).

My tires should be in tommorrow. I finally get to put my Carbon Fiber rims on. I got the new MXR 18x10x9 Holeshot, cant wait.

I am also waiting on a White Bros. seat cover, and a set of new AC Kick-up pro pegs. Cant wait.:D

you gonna start doing some internal engine mods bro?? I may be racing my practice bike at practice. its a 400ex with durablue axle champions, shorty slip on,works fronts and +2 inch modified a arms. Basically my beater machine. the 426 should be there but I don't wanna realy push it hard the first time ouy. I still gota break in the suspension and engine. not to mention tune my jetting and compression/rebound on my shocks. It'll be a good setup day for me.

400exBro
03-25-2003, 11:29 PM
ya i know i got to do some of the internal mods!!! but right now i am conered about the supsenion, axle, a arms, tire etc... i hope i will have enough money to get ulimate beadlocks from splash n dirt before the races start... 245 for a rim and 80 for a turf tamer....

i also talked to yann from elka and we descused something and i think i am going to buying some elka shocks... long travel with comp only, not the elites, just regular quad rate, piggy back zero preload shocks with comp only, that way i can get more travel out of the shock...

ya you got start riding the bike, just gingerly to get used to it, you don t want to show up on the first race and beat the **** out of it and something goes trebly wrong...

03-26-2003, 07:08 AM

ok...

i was planning on some hipers but my parents cut the deal at the last minute... we figured the duty would be way to much... then forum told me just to get champions... but i am going to get ulimates from splash n dirt...

fleshwound- what do you have done to your bike??

i hope next winter i will rip the top end apart and put a 12.1 comp 416 piston, sparks pipe, sparks cam, rockers, valves, get a fcr 38 mm carb, hinson 8 plate clutch setup... and some other stuff. i have a huge price list that i made that contains the parts that i should have on my ex in 2 years... and i think the total for all that parts is like 15 000:eek2:
first i need some elkas:eek:

but the other thing is that we might be getting a z-400 (my dads and sisters) so i might buy that off of them and mod that up. and sell my ex to my dad..

also you guys will be there on sunday right?? my dad said we might take the truck and tailer so i will look for you guys..
