CR engine swap

Here's the deal, I have a 04 cr 125 and I am wondering if there are any other years of the 125 motor that will fit in this frame? I'm thinking that there should be some years that just bolt right in but I haven't had any luck searching so far.

Also any suggestions for good bike forums like this one would be appreciated..

Best bike forum is Thumpertalk. The CR125's had 3 generations of aluminum frames - Gen 1 was 98/99, Gen 2 was 00/01, and Gen 3 was 02-end of production (07). So any 02-07 motor SHOULD work.... I'd do some research on that to make sure though.

No problem. Why are you doing the engine swap out of curiosity?

Not doing it for sure yet. A friend of mine had this 04 and didn't want to fix it. It needs a new cylinder, crank, piston, along with some other things which isn't a big deal, but some of the wiring is missing including the servo. So I just wanted to know if the swap was a possibility since I could get a whole bike for close to what it would cost me in parts to fix this one. An older one anyways probably not an 02-07 though.
