I broke my starter button at a race this past weekend. I want to get rid of the black blob on the handlebars. I took off my headlights so I'm not concerned about that. I've heard of people taking the kill switch button from dirtbikes (such as a YZ) and turning it into a starter button for the YFZ 450. My question is how do I go about wiring the new switch so that it works?

its been a long time since i did mine but i cut the pig tail off the stock switch so i would have a factory connection.. when you take apart you stock switch look at the color of your wires, the two for the off/run switch need to be wired together and then just wire up your YZ style kill switch up the the wires for the start button.

for the actual switch you can get a cheepo one or get the FLY billet kill switch which looks a whole lot cleaner...

I just ordered the fly kill switch, it seems easy to wire up the switch but I was wondering what did you do with all of your lighting wires? I don't run headlights and want to eliminate all of the lighting wires.. How do I go about doing that? Is it safe to strip all the wires out or do they run more than just the lights? Any advise or help would be great thanks

i just clipped the wires off with about 4 to 6 inches of wire from the plug, all staggered so the wire ends would have no way to touch. used some heat shrink to water prof the wires and taped up to finish out the harness..
