I used to ride some trails and mostly mx, I had the gt thunder setup with a stock swinger and for the money, that is a great setup. Granted a walsh/pep may be better, but for $350 the gt thunder setup worked really good for me. I actually liked it better than my buddies houser/elka rear end.

I have a stock swingarm with the lsr dc-6 and a PEP shock. Last quad I had was the lsr dc-6 with a fox shock. You cant beat the price if you don't want a swingarm.

The houser lt set up is great choice as well as some variation of the ARS FX setup,The ars is the most popular and teixera tech has a version that will use a stock late model swingarm. The houser or hess design has numerous variants, Lonestar dc,JB superlink, dirtworks and their are some more but are similar in design!Derisi and GT thinder revalve setups are really popular in the lesser classes!I have a houser set up and two borich style set ups that use Laegers arms and swinger but use ars geometry shocks and ars linkage and exit shocks,These are the custom axis of today! And I'm an Axis guy!The least expensive route is to find an ARS or HOUSER complete set up that fits your skill and weight there are alot of them floating around right now where many riders are testing other brands!

Motowoz for the win ! I'm running LSR Outlaw on one bike and Teixeira Tech's on the second. Both work great.

It depends on if your racing MX or XC as well. The Walsh, JB, and LSR seem to be very popular on the MX side. For XC the Teixeira Tech and ArsFX are popular, but alot also run the more standard GT Thunder style link as well.

I'm currently running a JB superlink for XC, but I also really like the ARS link. I've heard good things about the Houser rear end as well, but never ridden one. I had some luck out of my GT link, but it's just not as good IMO.

Back when I raced a DVX400. I ran a Houser swinger and link with a Axis shock. To this day....... I miss that setup.

Stock 2006 or newer swingarm, LSR DC6 link, and long travel shock is UNBEATABLE for the price
