I bought a 87 250r off the showroom floor when I was a teen, had it for several years.Since then I have had a Raptor,3 YFZs (still have one) a Cannondale Moto,LTR 450,Laegers CRF Hybrid.I am looking to go back to my roots and get another 250r...I came across a running 89 that cosmetically is not the greatest. My question is,the engine # on the quad does not match the # on the pink slip(California)is this a big deal? Also I noticed the rear lower motor mount is not being used,is this something that was done with the 88-89s or is there a bracket missing???Has Works shocks I would be selling.Im basically going to restore it,put a MX long travel setup on it with some motor work and new plastics.I also noticed a small crack on the left of the frame under the motor(not a big deal). Is $1300 a good price?

The rear lower motor mount is not used like on the 86-87 models. The upper one is bring used though right? It connects to both your frame rails. As for the price...doesn't sound to bad of a deal. Pics and more info. would also help. Cheapest I have ever got a running 250r was 1400. Hope this helps.

Thanks. So to save money,Honda used the same moulds from the older cases and left a floating-unused mount?Thought it looked strange when I looked at the quad.

Yes. The 86-87 uses that lower one and the upper one with the spacer that goes thru the swingarm.

Thanks man.I could get that 89 that needs a little work,on top of all the mods i want for 1300,or a super clean 06 for 2k...Which sounds better? Are the 88-89 that much better. Can you even tell the difference in handling or power?
