ok so iv had this 400ex for 2 years now. its got a 11:1 wiseco piston. fmf slipon and a stage 1 or 2 cam. i think 1 because she dont pull awsome on topend but its got mean *** bottom- mid power. its not a cam chain noise. iv heard this noise and myn is nowhere near as loud as that. and i can hear it in the head. not the cylinder. i just rebuild it and my valves were not shot. the head did pretty good on a leak down test. so i wanna no!!! is the whole thing about hot cams on the 400ex make valve noise true?? my bike starts decent and runs good.

it has to do with how much the hotcam allows the valves to open vs a stock cam. Also for break in they recommend .05 and ,06 lash, you can put it back to stock after broken in a bit and it quiets it down.

Yes, more aggressive cams make more valve train noise. Weather it is in a bike or vehicle engine.. They have more aggressive cam profiles.. I wouldn't worry about it.. Every body looks at me when I have my bike running, like wtf, because it sounds like a sewing machine.. If its running good, it is fine..

Stock is .005 and .004, hotcams suggests .006 and .005. Thats inches btw, but your mm measurements are near close to that.

I have a stage 1 cam that im putting in my EX the paper is showing intake .013 and exhaust .015. Is this just for the break in of the cam,or do they stay adjusted like that all the time?

I see some post that say the stage 1 goes back to stock settings.

One is in inches and the other is in mm. Either way just make sure you use the correct feeler gauge. And they stay at those specs.

you should put it back to .0004-.0005 after the break in(got the hotcam stg 3 and that what I can reed on my spec sheet)

Ive never set it back. I always just set it to the Specs that comes on the little sheet in the hotcam box. My brother has a 426 with a stage 2 hotcam and it seems quieter than stock. Also i believe you have one to many zeros in your clearances
:D

just start my newly rebuilt motor today. It's the first time I use the hot cam stage 3, so I'm wondering about the noise... everything is adjusted to spec 0.005, 0.006.... just watch this little video and tell me if it's suppose to be this loud:
