I'm thinking about moving my 1998 Laeger Pro Trax 250r that's been in storage since 2003. The bike is in awesome shape, never raced, never wrecked and has a 265 CT Power Valve 88 motor, full PEP's, Full Bore Fenders, etc. I see most people parting these out, but I would prefer a straight sale. Any idea on what these are worth today? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Post a pic. It will answer a lot of questions. More than likely, it will need a complete tear down and rebuild since it's been sitting for 7 years. I will say if you have the time, a part out will bring you significant more money in the long run.

My $0.02.

I don't think it's going to need a full tear down and rebuild. I had a bone stock 88 that sat in storage for the same amount time and once I put fresh gas and tranny oil it fired up on the second kick and ran great. The bike has been on a stand and was in excellent physical and mechanical condition prior to be putting up. Tank and carb were drained prior to storage.

I concur with Dan, it may fire up and run and even drive properly, but after sitting for so many years, any hard riding would probably blow a few things - anything rubber - seals etc and even tires can dry out become brittle etc.

The protrax may need a complete overhaul too since they are a delicate item.

But to answer your question - most likely as a whole machine you are looking at $4000-$5500 depending on area and other goodies.

You'd need a complete and detailed list. PICS speak for themselves.

The quad is kept an hour from me, so I'll get some pics over the weekend. I forgot to mention that the motor was completely gone through by CT and had less than 10 hours on it when it was put up. It also has been kept in an insulated garage on a stand. It was a full CR 500 setup with a Hinson basket, quick change clutch cover, sparks TT pipe and silencer (chrome), beadlocks front and rear, Holeshot rears and Riken Radial fronts. The rear tires were due for a replace, but other than that it should be good to go. The bike was setup for racing but never raced, just play ridden. Pics should be worth a thousand words.

Just outside Richmond, VA and I can ship the bike. I sold a bone stock 88 250r a few years back and shipped to Puerto Rico of all places.

Thanks for the info; I would really hate to part it out.

How much do you want for it? If it's really nice shape, you might pull $5500 for it. If YOU don't want to part it out, I'm sure there will be a number of people that are interested soley for the purpose of parting it out and making some $$ of it.

Another guy on here is trying to sell virtually the same machine in parts, with an estimated value of $7000 but isn't getting even close to enough interest.

I was hoping for $5K. I'll get some pics and then add them to the thread. I have another complete 89 motor with a hinson clutch and quick change clutch cover among other things. I've been into the R's since 92 and sadly I'm making my final exit.

To all those that sent PM's, please accept my apologies for the delayed response. This is the only forum I've ever been to that it either doesn't email you or notify you that you have a message when you login. All pm's replied to and again, I apologize for being tardy.

I also have a protrax spec'ed roughly the same as yours. I have nearly 20K into mine and even though I need the money for other projects, I can't afford to sell it. The 5K price tag is about the going price and before I loose 15K on selling mine, I'd hang it from the ceiling in my living room.

I can't wait to see pics of the bike, good luck with the sale.

I know exactly what you are saying. Once the high performance four strokes came out, the bottom fell out on prices for the high end R's. I'll take a bath on this one.

Here's my spare 1988 motor. Comes with the complete wiring harness, cdi, etc. Hinson clutch cover, basket, FMF cylinder and cool head. Cases are perfect. I don't remember how many hours are on the top end, so I would freshen it up to be safe. Here are some pics:

I personally think that price is good, the bike is clean. If you parted it, you'd probably end up with a few $k more than what your asking. Someone will give you what you are asking for it, in my opinion.

Good luck with the sale! Nice pictures by the way!

Here are my other R parts. Two radiators, two gas tanks, quadtech seat (86 Style I believe), Nac's kicker, front calipers, airbox, radiator shrouds with rubber piece, LoneStar axle, Lonestar bearing carrier, 1989 stock frame (no cracks, welds, or repairs), LRD adjustable pipe.

I Agree with Dan. You shouldn't have a problem getting what your asking, especially if your including your extra motor and all those parts, I'd say thats a really good deal. I think I could talk myself into buying it.

Dan, did you see the picture of his subframe with the 88-89 airbox boot using the mounting hole you had in question the other day?
