i did a retrofit to a bi xenon setup on my bike and ended up running a better quality bulb and ballast combo. so i had to do something with the old kit hid bulb i had. and then it hit me. the lights on the 400 are complete crap, why not give it an hid. turns out youve gotta remove the plastics to get the damn headlight out but i was determined to make it work. so i pull it all apart and get to work. luckily the h4 bulb had a rubber base so i just trimmed it down a little until it fit the opening of that pathetic bulb that was in there before, used some black gasket maker to secure it in place and some gorilla tape for good measure. wired it up so that it comes on when i turn on the high beams only. so with the low beam only one light is on so that i can use it for wooded trails in the daytime so that oncoming vehicles can see me and at night ill hit the high beam and the high beam turns on along with the hid. makes a huge difference, and ill let the pictures do the talking

I was under the impression that the "Bi-Xenon HID" kits have a dual bulb set-up, where they have a Xenon bulb for low beam, and then the HID bulb for high beam.

Am I mistaken here ?
or
If I am correct, couldn't you wire the xenon part to the low beam side of the switch, and therefore both lights would be working ?

what am I missing or confused here ?

the setup on the quad is just a single beam thats why its wired into the hi beam. a bi xenon setup is both lo and hi. with a halogen bulb itll be a dual filament style like our factory bulb. with an hid its generally a bulb that moves in and out to reposition it in the housing and change its light output. the setup on my bike is a projector with a flap that opens to give me a high beam. you could wire in a bi xenon setup onto our quads but i didnt want the hid constantly running while i was cutting through bush especially since im always shutting it off and turning it on plus i didnt wanna risk blowing the bulb due to abuse from jumping it and such. but modern hid bulbs are pretty good about taking abuse. still i didnt want it on all the time.
you can get some cheap junk bi xenon kits that are 2 bulbs attached to eachother but one will be halogen and the other hid, complete crap and should be avoided. the other issue with the bulbs that move in and out is that they do bounce around. i had a set in my explorer and the bulb was always bouncing around in there so i could just imagine how hard it would bounce in a quad.

this is whats in my bike.

thats my lo beam, when the hi beam goes on an arc is formed on the fence over the middle of the light from side to side. ill have to get a pic of it one night once i start riding again so you can see the difference. thats what i upgraded to the only downside is if i have the lo beam on and throw it hard into a corner i cant see the exit of it, but the hi beam fixes that :)

Thats how I just got done doing mine and I cant wait to try them out.One problem I have though is one of my bulbs flicker a little and is a little different color.I did get a set of spare bulbs to swap the one out if it is bad.I do have a bad battery so that might be playing a part in that.
