Thought i had an exaust leak. Turns out my entire header pipe split in half where it comes out of the motor. it looks like i took a pair of pipe cutters to it.

Anyone ever do this or know what causes it?

thankfully its being covered under warranty.

Never seen such a thing on an atv, a car yes tho. Mostly b/c the pipe was no good to begin with and rotten tho.

Maybe to much backpressure and thats the area it was welded together??

I had an old honda 200x three wheeler that split a header in half and it wasn't rusted....

I had it happen on my 450R. Had a full LRD on it and the flange completely separated from the head pipe. It was over a year old so I had to buy a new header.

yeah no rust (the bike is only 3 months old) and i stay on top of proper maintenence. the only thing i can think is after about 3 hours of hard riding i landed in a puddle after a rain at the track and doused my bike and myself in water....maybe the head and water weakened the metal?

That was pretty much what I figured happened to mine. I was hitting some deep cold puddles riding up in the mountains.

that happened to my dasa pipe. and maybe 10 hours on it max. sent it back and they re-welded it. hopefully they welded it right the second time:rolleyes:

Whats really weird too is that it wasnt on the weld. Had to be an imperfection in the metal or just Hot pipe. cold water. too bad we dont have any physicists on here who could tell us if thats possible or not :P
