CRU Manual cam chain.

Anyone ever used that..Ive gone threw 2 Honda tensioners. When the last one decided to let go I was pinned in 3rd and it allowed the cam chain to fall off the bottom sprocket.

Ya has anyone ran one and if so do you like it??

Im in need of a new tensioner like ASAP and this is definitely an option for me.

I still think is is what im going to get but how do i know how tight to make it?

Just let me know if they are worth it cause either way i need a new one.

The reason your tensioner keeps taking a dump is the chain is stretched. Happened to a friend of mine, he blew 2 before we figured it out. Buy an 02 CRF450 chain, fits great and its much stronger than stock.

I would never use a manual adjuster either, you dont add enough tension your SOL. I rather rely on a spring loaded one.

ive been told at high rev the spring loaded tensionor put too much pressure on the chain, thus wear on chain......with a manual tensior, u could fine toon it, jus find the sweet spot that quiets it up from tickin or use a inch pound tourque wrench and find the sweet spot, i wa sthinkin bout gettin one also

^ Never heard of such a thing. If it was true many more people would blow tensioners left and right.

What happens is your supposed to replace the chain at an interval (what that is IDK) and like anything else people dont fix them. Then what happens is the tensioner puts more tension on an already stretched chain and then fails. Replace tensioner and it happens again cause the chain is stretched. You would be surprised how little they stretch, a few mm maybe at most an they are done.

Whole point of using the CRF chain is its stronger, thicker and more resistant to the above issue.

If a manual tensioner was so great not only would there be a ton of them out there, installing one would be a top priority for many.

http://www.hondaatvforums.net/forums/builds-projects-diy/16244-manual-cam-chain-tensioner.html

I made one before, but afterwards I realized I made a few errors.

I used a carriage bolt because it's fully threaded, and later I found a fully threaded hex cap bolt. So other than that, my design would work.

The picture in post #20 is what would work instead of the carriage bolt.

Thanks, I didn't think of that.

Yea, worst case scenario, you need to buy a new one and you already were planning on it.

ive been running manual tensors in my drag bikes ( sport bikes) for quite some time. when installing the tensor or checking it i turn the bolt all the way out , then turn it back all the way in finger tight , then 1/2 turn with a wrench and tighten the jam nut . I cannot stress FINGER TIGHT enough , then a half turn with a wrench . i usually check it every oil change , weather it be a hard weekend at the track or 1000 miles . All actuality is more of a pain in the *** than its worth and didn't elevate the "the kawi tick" in my zx10 or my zx6r. Hope this helps
