My friend has an 05 and I have an 01 and Im wondering what mods I'll need to do to make them work. Any word on being softer or better than stock 400 shocks? Thanks in advance

knock the little nuts that are holding the fender mounts off with a chisel and use a flat head screw from underneath to mount them again.
then the 450r shocks will mount right up with no grinding or anything. they will sit about 1" higher but are a great addition to the 400ex front end with stock or wider arms.
they are a bit stiffer than stock ones with stock arms but they are adjustable to get them set up nicely.
alot of us run them and are very happy with them.
c&d racing and gt thunder i believe both revalve them also if you really want to get nuts with them. they do a great job and i would put them up against alot of aftermarket shocks out there right now after a revalve.

I had to cut my frame mount a little to get the holes to line up.
You can either grind the shock or grind the frame.
Do what steve said and pop those nuts off, it's real easy, just a chisel or a flat head and a hammer.
The shocks feel 10x's better, mine are pretty stiff and they feel awesome on the rough trails.

didn't have to grind anything on mine, mounted right up. The stock shocks would bottom out sometimes, but the 450's don't come close.
The part you grind on the frame is like 1/8, dont grind the shocks cause if you ever choose to upgrade and sell them aint no one gonna want them all ground like that.
Didn't grind anything off the shocks. Modified the brackets though.
