I was just wondering if anybody has had a 99-04 as well as a 05-09 engine apart to see how the reverse gears were put in.

Is there something different about the cases inside or did they just engineer the gears to fit in the 99-04?

Could you buy the gears for 05+ and put them in a 2002?

I could get a motor for $100 to use, but want reverse so I wondering if I can buy the extra gears and just put them in.

Side case cover and clutch basket are different. I just got finished putting together a reverse motor for my wife's '02. I bought a reverse bottom end on e-Bay, though.

i have reverse on my 05 and my mom has it on her 07, lots of people say its useless but its very helpful in sticky spots. or just where its to tight to whip around.

Sounds like my project... i bought a 05 bottom off ebay... used my current top end and it bolts up perfectly... tho the starter is different... you'll also need the cable and all hardware for it... it's a bit of a pain... hope your swinarm bolt comes out better then mine did... i'm hoping to have mine done this weekend...
