So, got my bike together the other day and tested the stator only to find out it was shot. put the new stator in. Now I'm getting no spark at the plug. cap and coil are good, red wire from stator is def making power. I have power going into the cdi, but feels like nothing is getting past there. the green and green/white are firing with the test light when I kick. I've tried two different coils, two different cdis and getting no spark at the plug. Basically now only have the stator plug and black/red wire hooked up, and the harness ground and coil ground and black and yellow wires hooked up. still....nothing...been that way for the last three hours I've put into this thing trying to figure out why it won't start.

this is the only current shot I have of the wiring. the black and green are connected correctly to the coil.

well this picture is about worthless. I have the coil grounded by itself to the frame, and the harness is grounded by the green wire that comes out of the cdi.

Usually when I have no spark, it is something with the kill switch. Any chance it could be that?

Other thing I usually find is a bad ground connection.

left the kill switch unhooked. all thats connected is hte stator and cdi and coil and ground

is there a chance someone could post a pic of the wiring diagram for these bikes. would like to comb through it when I have time at work today.

It looks like you've spray painted your frame.... Be sure to check and make sure you've got good metal-to-metal grounds and haven't painted over any of them.

I hate electrical problems...

so now with the replacement cdi I get spark after I kick it over. I get nothing, until theengine stops rotating, then I get one spark.

is the stator brand new?? on a ex I had the same symptom with one spark at the end of the rotation.. and it was the stator

yeah, stator is new

have you checked continuity on the wires going from the CDI to the coil? bad connection in a connector possibly, like the wire is clamped in, but has come lose from the pin or something crazy like that.

diff stator, and switch the green and black/yellow wires and she fired up and ran..... who knows
now my head bolts are leaking coolant

i know you said you got it fired, but found these on another thread

but I do know that the schematics are correct as far as color scheme and pin placement

I once pretty much lost a whole season of ridin' because a brand new aftermarket stator provided that same single spark after kicking it over. Drove me insane because the darn thing tested fine with my ohmmeter. After trying everything else several times and then maybe again (even tried cussin at it) I bought a cheap used stator off e-bay, fired it up & its still workin' today. On the plus side I sure did learn a lot about my electrical system and I'm sure you have too.

I have had this exact problem, I tried alot of cussin and it didn't work.

Jay at ESR was the one who finally helped me.

Remove your flywheel and shake it. If it rattles, then it is your problem.

I had to jet up 4 sizes after I replaced my flywheel, and it idled for the first time ever.
