Yesterday it was below ) today and my Axis shocks wouldn't move. I had to slow move them up and down to warm them. Its like they froze. I didn't think they could freeze.

I know its the shock. I took one of the shocks off and the a-arms moved freely. It was so freaken cold today. I could pull up on the handlebars do a wheelie or stand on the bumper and the shocks wouldn't move. Its weird. I was hoping it water made its way into the shock oil and froze.

well being that shocks have oil in them.....oil gets thicker when cold right? Couldn't that be part of the issue....just extra stiffness because of the oil?

I just got off the phone with my friend who raced in New York day and he told me how his Axis Shocks were froze also. He had to heat the ressys up to be able to compress the shocks. I thought it was so funny. It was below 0 though during the race. He got 5th. Anyway, it must be the oil or type of valving that prevent the axis from working when it gets real cold.

Yes, my Axis shocks are frozen right now to. Be careful about moving them with out warming them up first. I had a buddy with ohlins that where frozen and he blow out the valves.

Yeah i had mine freeze b4. The best thing to do is either keep them in a heated garage, or take a hairdryer to them b4 u ride. Once u get them moving they will be fine. But The main thing is the seals blowing.

OMG,,that means there junk then,,I can't believe this..how could they be froze I mean we pay so much money for these shocks and they freeze..WTF.... That's terrible..the craftsman ship is for crap on them things..I'd send them back and buy stockers there much better..

LMFAO...if this was an Elka thread thats the comments that would have been made I'm sure..

Guys I'm just kidding about the comments above..;)

Do only axis freeze? Is it cuz of the oil they use? They must suck you should just burn them in a fire so they never freeze again

Think about it,why would axis only freeze? Unless they use a diffrent type of fluid in the shock it seems to me like every shock could freeze if one can.

elka's shouldn't be affected as much by cold weather. they use a synthetic oil, the same stuff they use on there snowmobile shocks. Im not trying to say elka is better. im just stateing something so please don't flame. Rico has a good point tho

Only the axis where frozen yesterday. The my rear shock was fine, so wasn't my friends stockers.

This cold suck. Theres no way Rico could live up here. Are beers were freeze while we were drinking them. I never been out in that cold of temps.

let me revise my earlier post, they didnt actually JAM UP but i blew the seal because they were cold. But any shock will do that;) But i did see at one race a Banshee with Works on it, either he bent the shaft or it froze, but the one tire was rarely on the ground it was just hovering over the ground. And it was CRAZY COLD that race. It was like 0 and the windchill was almost -15

you think thats crazy cold. its -45 with the windchill factor here. this cold is totaly un normal. But again not any shocks would freeze up. did you not see my post

haha, that would mean that the stock shocks would have worked better than axis, lmfao:D

The frozen shocks worked great for ice racing.

Axis uses the same oil in there sled shocks as they do in there ATV shocks. SO i highly doubt that its just axis shocks. Cause then there sled shocks would prob. lock up. Almost every oil out there will thicken, it dont matter if its the stuff Axis, Elka, PEP, works, or even the factory crap.

well, most shock manufacturers dont see freezing the oil in the shocs as a problem, becuae when you spend that kind of money, your supposed to keep your quad in a heated/cooled controlled environment, and on cold race days, keep the quad stored in a heated enclosed trailer, or put it on its side in the cab of your pickup. lol thats if you can still afford a heated garage/barn, or pickup after buying the friggin shocks. lol. but i never heard of shocks freezing like, that id be pissed. I could see elka doin that, but not axis. axis is a good shock  j/k.
