Im just kind of curious if anyone on here has a DRD@D frame. The first roll frames before they changed to roll design. Looking back through some of my old dirt wheels these seemed to be the hot setup in baja. Just curoius to see hear some stuff on these the pics in the old dirt wheels arent real good hard to really see much of them and they dont give very good reports on them.

I have a few articles that were very detailed as to Doug Roll Design and Development. They were the cats meow back then. If I remember correctly Doug designed a front suspension set up that rivaled the Protrax. I'll look to see if I can find the article. I had the oportunity to ride a DRD&D back in 1995 or 1996. It was set up for MX and for comparison was the Laeger bike that I now own. I actually preferred the Roll chassis.

I would guess that there are lots of DRD&D's out there that the owner's simply call Roll chassis.

I believe one of the better articles was a comparison between EEE's and DRD&D's frames.

that sounds like a good read. From the looks they seem to be prtty tall i didnt know if that was just the shock setup or if they were built to be that tall. I know in baja u want clearence. The thing i was wondering most was how similar they were to my lobo.

I have a DRD&D CR500 Engines quad. I am actually thinking of selling it. It is finally all together runs awesome and handles great, just needs to be all torn down and sent for powder. let me know if there is any interest in it. I talked to doug and there were only 2 of these built supposidly. Here is an old writeup on it....

I have one. It was built for a racer named Danny Powell to compete in the Mickey Thompson series. It wasn't any taller than standard. I made it into a desert bike. It's buried under my Dad's model airplanes right now. I'll try to post pics.

YTMan,

How come a beautiful machine like that is buried underneath your dad's stuff?

Sorry all. Dropped out of the racing scene back in '02'ish and have been riding 2 wheelers. I still love 'R's tho and one by one I'll rescue them.
Here's a closer pic of the DRD&D swingarm. Before that they were Roll Bros.

I'm no Roll expert but as far as I know the single bottom tube didn't come into play til the Lobo Spec in approx. '95. I've been searching but I can't find any pictures of early DRD&D front ends. I would love to see some 'cause I love desert bikes

The Subframe mounting is signature Doug Roll on ytman's frame...

Early Roll swingarms/frames had the rear shock offset to the right, and the shock was mounted on top of the swingarm. Here are two examples.

I love that pic of Mike McGee's Suzuki. The guys who raced it said it was a monster. He actually had an 8 gal. gas tank made for the thirsty beeach.

yea rain def hurts, im 36 now and want to race a 24hour race, I really want to race baja my bike is setup for baja except the tires may be a little short... 21 height 20 rear height.. i think they are 4 ply but ive run n everything withthem and not sure I would want the extra 4 ply(8ply tire) those razors I run seem to be awesome regardless of the terrain and the lack of extra plies

Mike & Charlie asked me to ride the '91 Nevada 500 & Baja 1000 that year he won the score class 25 championship 2/92 3&4 wheel action. Got to ride that Roll lt500 again at the '93 1000. No gps back then, prerunning alone down there these days is kinda insane now.

Charlie raced with us at the '95 24 hrs of Fud, got the vet class record and 4th overall that year 8/95 3&4 wheel action. Mike showed up too and raced a banshee with others from D37. Otis Fudpucker was a great race promoter that is missed by many...

Fud allowed as many riders as you wanted in '89. Sure would great to see that race come back. I remember Doug Roll & brother Mike raced that event.
