What you think my jetting should be around?

Right now I believe I am running a 160 or 165 Dyno Jet with the Dyno Jet needle on 2nd or 3rd clip.
It doesnt hesitate when I crack the throttle, but the plug looks blackish, and when I release the throttle the exhaust makes that annoying "popping" noise.
Id like to clear that up.
My pilot jet is stock, #38.
Elevation here ranges fron 1000-2500 ft.

turn your f/a out 1/2 turn at a time till the pop goes away, if you are more than 3.5 out go up to a 42 pilot and start over, and go down 1 size on the main to a 155 or 160 dj depending on what is in it now. steve

Dump the dyno jets, the needle they use just doesnt work well for our style of carb.I found out the hard way myself..

You should be running about a kehin 170-175 (DJ 160 is 177.5=keihin), 2nd or 3rd needle clip with stock needled and a 42 pilot with your air/fuel screw 2.5 turns out.

You can try a 42 pilot, should help a bit.

Yeah, well here soon I'll be placing an order at JETs R US for a 40 and 42 pilot jet. I was told it makes starting easier, since I removed the choke.

I have the special D shaped tool for the A/F screw, But it doesnt seem like the screw seats properly. It justs keeps going and going. which ever way I turn it.
I do feel it getting slightly tighter, and then it'll be gone, till I do a complete revolution.
Its hard to explain.

Sounds as if the A/F screw might be stripped.

Well how can I fix that? Its been like that ever since if owned it. Im the 2nd owner BTW. It was completly stock when I bought it.

Pretty much take it out and buy a new one, if you buy a carb rebuild kit they usually come with it. I got mine form www.jetsrus.com

I cant unthread it though. It wont come out just by turning it. Think its only the screw that is stripped?
What about the actual threads in the carb?

Screw is brass and very easy to strip out, threads in the carb should be ok.

Really Id have to see the carb to figure it out, but perhaps you can leverage it somehow. Otherwise take apart everything you can to get to it.

Ok I'll be ordering the rebuild kit when I order the 40&42 pilot jets.
I hope this makes me close to being right on jetting wise.
Would I need to rejet for a HotCam if I was to add one later on down the road?
