year model id

guys i've looked at pics and just thought i'd show yall to be 100% sure.... im thinking this bike is an 88 but i was told 89... see if you can tell by these pics.. also the last bit of the serial on the frame i can make out is jk201227 which makes me think 88..

somebody cut off the footpeg attachments and welded on a propeg bar mount... but if im not mistaken the rear motor mount makes me think 88-89 and the serial leads me to believe 88... thanks for your time

You are right... its def an 88/89 because of the rear engine mount.

I dont really know any way of telling them apart besides the frame sticker with the year and the plastic color (88 Red, 89 White). Plastic isnt the best method as its easily changed lol.

If you can get the whole vin#, that will tell you real quick!

aren't the 88/89's very similar? i guess what im saying it does it really matter? are there really any differences id run into? ill try to get the first part of the vin the paint has made it hard.. i was going by this:

scroll to the bottom and it has serial numbers by year... thats what made me think i had an 88

The 88 and 89 are identical with the exception of heelguard mounts for the 89.
