OK here's the deal. pdxbigfoot(Jason from trx250r.net) and I are talking to Lew at www.chassisincfab.com about making WIDE footpegs for the 86/87 quads. We are still in the process of getting a frame for mock-up and a set of pegs to him. I recieved an e-mail from him and he mentioned that maybe he'll make an initial run of like 40 sets and offer them at an introductory price of 125 bucks shipped. This is not set in stone as of yet but want to get the word out and post here if you are interested in purchasing a set. Let me know what you think and when I hear more info I'll update then.

JoePA

As of right now they are going to be Non-kickup. We didin't discuss width or finish. It may just come in raw steel but I'll see what he says about finishing them.

AS soon as I hear more I'll pst it but wanted to get the owrd out as many people were asking about them and now is your chance ot get them.

Ok guys and gals I was at Lew's shop today and talked pegs with him.
Here's what he's thinking. He has a 86/87 frame and my 89 so he would be able to make them for both generations.
They will be like the ones on his site and linked above. He will make 20 pair to start, half and half. They are plasma cut from 4130 and use the same for the support tubes. They also will have the kick ups.
Here's the really cool part. Raw: $100.00
Basic powder:$125.00

I have custom stuff being built by Lew and I have to say he thinks outside of the box, has vision, lays great beads and most importantly is willing to work with guys like US!
I myself feel really lucky to have ran into him and its a good step in the right direction for our long lost ancient quads (that still slay!)
Give him a buzz

The best way to get a set is to call or email Lew directly. I might try to get a set for my new build and post up some pics real soon.

So when I go to the site and click "components" , I scroll down, and I see some kickup style pegs. Are they going to be like those? I am looking for a 88-89 style of kickup...

pdxbigfoot
03-07-2011, 10:16 PM
Yes and no.
Those are off a Shee or Raptor. The 250R ones will be in the same style as that picture.

Ok I just placed an order for the 1st set.
Hoping to have them done ASAP so everyone can see fit and finish.
I will shoot pics up here as soon as I can.

Are they gonna have a mounting plate welded to them so they are solid mount? Or are they gonna be like the Roll pegs where you have to use the stock peg mount?

I will see Lew again tomorrow and I will find out.

Would be really awesome if he fabbed up some heelgaurds to go with them. Definitely interested

pdxbigfoot
03-08-2011, 10:39 AM
Those will be in the works as well.
Lew made some pegs and heel guards for a 450R and is trying to find the pics.
As soon as I get them I will post up some pics.

If he did that count me in. I'd just need to find some nerfs to work with those pegs. So it would be a similar setup to like IMS? nerfs, pegs, and heel guards all seperate correct? I'm ready do pull the trigger so let me know, on the heel guards!!! :D I tried to get Rath to do something and after some smoke blown my way saying they would, they won't return emails, probably too busy right now... haha...

Thanks Jason!!

Yes its really good to see someone that really wants to help and design "new" things for the R
A soon as I can sit down with him and get some ideas flowing I will post up.

This is a great thing guys and his fab skills are off the chart so at this point the only limit is our imagination.

Ill see.
We are going to make this happen guys!!!!
In my opinion we shouldnt have to beg companies to make stuff for our quads.
They need to remember what quad got them to where they are now.

I agree wholeheartedly, however, those companies that dropped the R are only doing it because they couldn't make any money on them, and there was very little advertising, since none of the Pros run 250rs anymore... that is until recently. What I don't get is why take the 250r stuff off the books? The designs/fixtures/capital was all done/spent, they weren't costing anything and didn't need to carry inventory... etc... I don't mind waiting an extra couple weeks to have something made to order... asinine if you ask me...

I totally agree. Why toss the plans, the blue prints for a part if the R&D was already spent one it?

A good example of this is Roll Design pegs for the R. They use to have a great product that is still in demand today. The don't make the pegs anymore because they don't have the molds. if they just hung onto the molds we would have pegs and roll would be making money.

Ok guys and gals.....
Spent the afternoon at Lew's shop and heres what we came up with.
I brought my Roll peg's and stock 86 peg mounting plates.
He designed the 86 first. If memory serves me correct he lowered it by 1/2" and moved it back to 88/89 distance.
The 88/89 were a little more difficult but he knocked it out of the park. They will basically have the same geometry as my Roll but will be 1/2" lower as well.
They will both have 3 rows of teeth and a kick up. They are going to be 1/4 wider than the Rolls and will have three 1 inch support tubes instead of his usual 4.
The mounting plates will be 3/8 4130 chromoly as well as the tubes.
There will be 2 tunnels running through them for nerfs and future heel guard mounting.

These are going to be kick *****!!!
So design is done and now he will order matierial then cut them out. Im guessing production will start next week.
As soon as my set is done I will mount them and get pics up.

Heres the spy photo's......

PDX--

I just picked up a set of the motosport nerf bars. they seem ok so far. I would like a set of these pegs also. The motosport bars bolt to the front face of the stock '87 peg. (kinda dumb)
Do you know if these wide pegs are wider at an equal distace about centerline?
Another way of asking this would be..... Is the front face of the wide peg at the same postion as the stock peg?

pdxbigfoot
03-09-2011, 08:32 PM
Im fairly certain that he moved everything back and the front of the peg is at stock location.
I will also double check the bolt holes for mounting nerfs and heel guards as well. Im pretty sure those holes are Roll width.
Ill let him know guys.

I just got the motorsport nerfs and haven't mounted them yet. I would DEFINITELY buy a set of these pegs but would like to be able to use the new nerfs with these new pegs. Also, I'd get the heel savers with the new pegs if he's gonna fab them too. These pegs are badass! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.:D

pdxbigfoot
03-09-2011, 09:46 PM
It might end up being a per order semi-custom fit.
You send in your nerf bar mounting hole dimensions and he would build the front plate to accept your favorite nerfs......I dont know for sure, these are just thoughts but I will be keeping him updated and ask him as many questions as possible.

Prime Target
03-09-2011, 10:06 PM
If he made these pegs with heel guards i'm thinking i'd probably just ditch the nerfs. I haven't put the nerfs on yet and i'd honestly rather have those monster looking pegs with guards instead. If the nerfs bolt up, bonus. I need the pegs for an 87 frame.

I think the best plan of attack is to focus on one thing at a time.
So pegs for both generations should come first.
I will not be "taking orders" I will mainly just be keeping everyone up to date with the progress.

When they are done and there are a few sets on the shelf then I will give the green light to call Lew directly.

Lets get the pegs done 1st then move onto heel guards.

I will update this thread as info come's in.

PDX, I sent Lew an e-mail just letting him know of my interest in purchasing a set for my 87. In no way am I trying to step on any toes or jump the line. I just figured an e-mail from me would let him know of my interest in his product and that if he makes a few sets I would be interested once available. I'll keep an eye on this thread and when you give the OK, I'll place an order with him.

Here's the current update.
Lew will be grabbing the chromoly tomorrow and then it will go to a laser cutter, hopefully by tomorrow as well.
He's hoping to get them back in his hands by Friday.
Realistically Im guessing actual fab will start by this time next week.
He stated that laser cut is a much better way to go for his peg design as far as the clean cut that a laser provides. He has done them with a plasma plotter before and it works but takes quite abit of work to get them to look as clean as the laser.

Be patient guys and gals....these are going to go into production! Its in the 3rd stage out of 5.
Stay tuned!!!

I was at the shop today and was able to get some pics of them mounted.
I will also be back out there working on my subframe tomorrow so I will see whats going on with shipping.
I can tell you this much....sitting on the seat with these give you a really good feeling of being secure. I have lost a foot off the pegs on more than one occasion and as you all know it really sucks. They feel very "natural" and the craftmanship is incredible.

We talked heel guards today as well and needless to say the wheels are turning.

They were 1st run and he was welding to order. Then the ones that went to powder were running late. Its one of those things as with anything custom...sometimes it takes a bit.

I just had about 30 hours of work on a hood prototype go south on me in the blink of an eye and was left with litterally nothing to show for it but a big frown and the feeling of defeat.

I got my pegs today and all I can say is HOLY CHIT BATMAN!! The pegs looks just amazing! I bolted them up fot a fit test and PERFECT!! I'll try and get them in powder this weekend but probably Monday. I'll post a pic then.

I also got to give Lew a HUGE kudos for fixing what UPS's goof up! Somewhere between here and Lew's my pegs got lost. I statyed in contact with Lew and we gave it a while to make sure they would show up and they didn't. So Lew contacted me and said he is going to weld up another set and got them out to me ASAP! Well when he said ASAP I didn't think it would be that quick be he wasn't kidding. 2 days later there is a box at the house with pegs and a few other goodies. His customer service is TOP NOTCH! Glad to have him on board the 250R crew!!! Thanks Lew.....""beers""

I'll be sporting the Chassis FAB Inc logo on the R and I have got to say it looks GREAT!

JoePA

I'll get you the measurements tomorrow.

They are about 1/2 lower than stock. Is there a particular measurement you are looking for with the WIDE pegs installed?

etccb
05-31-2011, 01:46 PM
Thank you for your help!
I am looking to confirm how much lower they are and a forward back measurement of the leading edge where the nerfs bolt up. The width also but I am sure that is here on the boards already. How do these relate to the roll pegs. Xfactor has nerfs listed for the trx250r with roll pegs so those might be perfect. I am needing a set of nerfs and pegs this month for this 87 that I am working on and would like to go this route if I can come up with a nerf that will work and if the pegs are relocated from the stock position. With a good peg like this as a starting point really almost any nerf that will fit would be fine so I have some different mounting area options that are on the market to go through to maybe get more clearance then you had with yours. I just don't want to waste a bunch of time and would continue looking elsewhere if these pegs are in the stock location as far as ht and the center of the peg. It is very hard to find something for the 86-87. XFR will make a set of nerfs with 2" wide pegs for me but the pegs are in the stock location.

JoePA
05-31-2011, 09:32 PM
I took some measurements and they are pretty darn close to the stock location! I must have frame issues or something!!

The WIDE pegs are about 4 1/4 from the aft bolt hole center to the forward side of the peg and they ar about the same height as stockers...i thoguht they were lower.

The stock peg is about 3 3/4 from center to the of the aft mounting hole to the forward edge of the peg.\\I'll have to look at the x factor nerfs and see what they look like.

etccb
05-31-2011, 11:06 PM
Thanks JoePA.
Man, where did all of the down and back stuff go???????
I just don't know what to do and I am running out of time.

etccb
06-01-2011, 08:12 AM
The other measurement needed in the search for nerfs that could be used with these pegs would be the mounting area for the nerf on the peg. hole to hole to X= the clearance required around the end area of the peg. Some seem to stay lower then others at the peg end area as well.
I want a setup with pegs that are down and back but that may not be an option any more.

edit: I talked to Lew and a nerf bar manu today. This may all work out. I will update when I have more info.

06-01-2011, 03:38 PM

I need 2 measurements from someone with a set of these pegs asap.
#1-What is the distance from the center of the nerf mounting bolt holes on the pegs to the bottom of the frame rail?
#2-How wide are Lews pegs?

Thanks

JoePA
06-06-2011, 08:41 PM
#1 The measurement is 2 1/8 from the center of one of the small mounting holes to the bottom of the frame
#2 The pegs are 2 3/4 wide.

I was just going to IM you with the measurements then I saw your post. Sorry it took so long to get them to you...had drill and a small medical emergency!!!! Isn't life fun!!! LOL

Thanks, and I understand the life stuff for sure. It has been a tuff week for my family as well. Now on to some really unimportant things that help distract our mind a little.
With a 1/2 forward leading edge, 2 3/4 wide, and this stock one in my hand at 1 1/8 these pegs are back 1 1/8.
I will be working on a few things today and I will let you know what I come up with. I will be ordering some things this week.:D

I just recieved them on Thursday. They are now made of stainless and I believe he is going to start making them all to the specs that I hade him make mine. 1/2 lower and 1/4 off of the leading edge from his first version. I might be able to install them and these new xfactor nerfs today to see if they will work out like I have hoped. If not today it will be Thursday night. I will let you guys know how it works out and post some pics.

It was a long battle getting his shop moved, having his TIG welder just stop working and spending about a month trying to troubleshoot it, Lew is finally up and going again.

I appreciate Evan's patience in getting his set.....thanx bud for being so understanding through this mess!

Version 2.0......
Better placement (Evans specs) with a better "feel", fit and stance.
100% 316 stainless
4 rows of teeth
lighter than the first version
We are also polishing all the stainless before assembly (this pair is not)
These are parts for life guys and if your R exploded they would survive....they are totally overbuilt and as beefy as they come.

yea my father installed them last night, ordered mine mild steel and gave him a couple options on powder incase he had a load of parts going in, so maybe the polisher has your pegs for the extra shine =)

There is a good chance they are still at the polisher. Call him to varifiy as my first set got lost in the mail and after he sent me another pair of pegs the first set showed up at his doorstep..."return to sender"!!??

Yeah, they are still at the polisher. I guess he underestimated how long polishing would take

These pegs are freaking awesome! When I first got them I thought they were huge. After riding with them now, they are the best pegs I've ever owned. Maybe someone could help me post a pic of these polished bad boys?
