im in the process of tearing down my frame and i got to the steering stem bearing and couldnt get it out. i got out the seals, i pulled out the bottom spacer, but the bearing will not come. I also removed that little clip on top (after i had already ruined the bearing. So anyways, how do i get it out, and how much are new ones.

if you have removed the snap ring...turn the frame upside down and use a socket the size of the outer bearing and knock it outta there.

since we are on this topic, how the **** do you get the swing arm off???
we tried everything.. impact gun,, sludge hammer, sparyed a whole bunch of penrating oil on the poivt bolt, oil............
grrrr i could not get the bolt to budge.... so i said screw it i don t want spend any more money becuase my axle bearing are shot... so i am getting a dual roller bearing carrier, lsr axle and rad axle nut...
400EX swingarms are he!! to get off. I'm not really sure how my friend got his off, but he had to buy a new one. They aren't cheap either
Derek those bearings are pretty cheap. I bought every piece in the stem mount, 2 swingarm bearings, 2 swingarm bushings, a head gasket, and some more little stuff for $119 I think.

if you dont periodically pull and grease the swing arm pivot bolt they can be almost impossible to get off. i believe rico had to get his cut out in pieces. maintence my friends...maintence:p

mine was a pain also, just loosen up the nut on the shift side (i started on the other side....whoops) then after that was broken free, i backed the nut off a bit, sprayed some penetrating oil everywhere, let it sit, then started beating on the nut with a 3 lb hammer. Eventually it started to move, then just kept pushin it through.
dont just hit the bolt it will move but muvh slower. i have found to twist the side by the brake lever with a ratchet and hit on the clutch lever side and it will move much quicker
Turning any bolt makes it come out easier.

when i got to it, i realized that my bolt was broken and bent and the thing would not move....i had to cut it out. A new OEM one is like $30, and a baldwin one is close to $70 i believe. OUCH..lol

ya we try that too...
my dad had the impact gun the clutch side bolt while i was pounding wtih a hammer on the other side...
i guess the bolt must be broken, or seized right in there...
I guess it happens because the bearings or bushings wear out and they allow the bolt to seize to the bushing? I know my 250R happened alot like that. The 1st time I took the bolt out it was bone dry and almost seized to the bushing.

Ga! No! I better be able to just spin mine out with my fingers! If not I know something bad will happen... I have to much stuff to not pressure that thing out. I will get the Back-Hoe on the wrench... or a 50 ton jack.... Mine better come out nice and easy, I dont want to brake any more stuff!
