I was thinking of having my stock 400ex wheels chrome plated. Are there any downsides to doing this other then them getting scratched which im not real worried about because it will still look better than the stock drushed look.

Guess you could or you can get them bead blasted and polish the alumimum will be almost as bright as Chrome but won't chip off and will be cheaper. It my even be cheaper to buy some polished wheels like Douglas or itp just make sure to get the .190's i think there around 50 a piece then you will have an extra set of wheels

X2

Unless you have a show quad chrome isnt worth the money to just go and tear around on.

that`s why i asked i imagine your going to pay way too much for it to be worth it. powdercoat can get pretty close to chrome and be reasonable to do. but you can polish those things up pretty nice and not have to worry about them after that

I just wanted some shiny wheels. I spray painted them black origionaly but the paint started coming off so I tried to polish them but I used to much when I painted them and wasn't coming off easy. I eventually gave up on the whole process.

What's the best way to get paint off a rim when it's thick

Its just super high strength paint remover (WEAR CHEMICAL RESISTANT GLOVES!). Rub it on, wait 15-20 mins and the paint will come right off. Be warned tho, it may take off any finish the wheels have on them (clear coat, etc) and it doesnt like rubber, so watch the tires. You might be able to get the paint off with carb or brake cleaner tho-brake cleaner is just pressurized acetone btw.

You can get it at any hardware store.
