Any idea what cam this is? I cant make out any numbers. But it does have a h and e? On the left side that is not stamped its kinds etched on there

Hotcams have marks at the end of it, maybe it's a stock regrinded cam... maybe some guys who knows webcam, gt or megacyle better can tell you... or juste try to get some infos from those compagnies... good luck

Can you see the compression release gear on stock cam without taking it out? I was told by the previous owner that it was a hotcams stage 2 but I have no reason to believe to believe it.

Yes u can see the decomp and that cam does not have one.

Im pretty sure its a hot cam. I will know for sure when my parts get here and I take my top end apart. The cam looks like crap. what the hell causes chunks to come off the cam?

No lubrication, improperly torqued head cover, cam chain caused slippage at gear and created rocking motion, poorly adjusted valves.

Looks like the hotcam logo engraved onto it in the second pic to me. Pretty sure it's an old style hotcam, you used to have to press the cam sprocket flange off the stock cam and onto the hot cam. My stage 1 was like that and also didn't have any model numbers engraved anywhere that I could find other than a "CH7" I believe hand etched into one end.

Ok I checked, mine has a CHT-7 engraved into the end opposite the sprocket, you can also see the hotcam logo in the picture too. I was sold this cam as a hotcam XR400S1-A, but they weren't positive what stage. It came in an opened hotcam box with xr400S1-A (stage1) sticker on the end, but the cam had never been used, so I'm almost positive mine is a stage 1. I'm almost done putting my bike back together after having it apart to do a few things in addition to the cam, I'll let you know if it "feels" like a stage 1.

Maybe someone will know for sure.

After getting it back together and riding it around in the yard for a little bit to start the break in it definitely feels like a stage 1, seems to have tons of bottom end but I won't get to finish breaking it in and fully test it until tomorrow.

Well I'm goin to call hotcams tommarow and see if they can tell me what cam it is since I I have the part number now.

Called hot cams and its a stage 1 guess its the same as WoodTRD's just has a I instead of a C in the part number for some unexplained reason. Oh well hopefully it will give good bottom end torque along with my 11:1 piston

Thanks, good to know. I finished breaking it in and got to take it out for a ride yesterday and was really impressed, TONS of bottom end. Granted I put a xr head gasket, cleaned up and lightly ported the head, cleaned up the header welds, removed the choke, and swapped from a white bros e series to a pro circuit t-4 at the same time I can't say exactly how much of the change was from the cam, but it all made a huge difference, even still running a stock piston. I could loft the front end at pretty much any speed in any gear with my 14/38 gearing. I'll probably go back up a tooth on the countershaft now to gain some top end back, but being able to pull the wheels up just from throttle in 5th is makes me grin :devil:
