so the 2004 450r i just got has no exhaust valve shims. they had the decompression tighten as far as it would go and their was no clearance. my question is what size shim do i start with to adjust the valves? it also has a crf stage 1 hot cam in it,and i have a shim kit that came with it.

just try them out until you get it right, its hard to give a starting point because they are all different depending on seat and valve condition and installation, you can compress the spring enough on the exhaust with a screwdriver so you dont need to take the cam carrier out each time

ya just put something to start then use this formula
A=(B-C)+D
A=New Shim Thickness
B=Recorded Valve Clearance
C=Specified Clearance
D=Old shim Thickness

i ended up with a 2.30 shim on both exhaust valves, is that good or bad?
