Hi im looking at buying a new quad for ice raceing i was looking at a completly rebuilt stock 450r or a 2004 400ex with 440 kit 450r carb web cam oversized valves ect. thats pushing out 50hp where i race these 2 would be in the same calss... What would be my best opiton?????

Are they both on stock suspension?

yea and the 440 has 12.5:1 compresion the 440 has fullflight aarms and a lonestar -2 swingarm everthing else is stock..i race rubber so only the rear suspention really matters

that is about the max you can do to a 400ex. With a 450r, you can get more than 50HP. I say go with the 450r for racing. You will wear yourself out trying to keep up with other 450's that have motor work. Also you will wear you pocket book out too! Do some head work to the 450 and it would probably out run the 400.

Go with the 450. i bought my 440 last march and i outgrew the power it offered by july so i bought a 450.
and yea i know, my 440 doesnt have as much done to it, but still.

450 all day my man. Had a decked out 440 before I moved up to my 450 and that thing is a turd compared to the 450. 440 was blowing head gaskets even with heavy duty studs n what not.
