Hi im looking at buying a new quad for ice raceing i was looking at a completly rebuilt stock 450r or a 2004 400ex with 440 kit 12.5:1 comp. 450r carb web cam oversized valves ect. thats pushing out 50hp where i race these 2 would be in the same calss... What would be my best opiton?????

i can tell you this, there was a reason why we were taking out the 400 motors and putting yz400-426-450 and crf 450 motors in them. go with a 450r

450r, you can work a EX-but once you start getting into higher compressions, larger bores, etc its reliability can take a nosedive if its not all done right.

Okay cuz there both the same price and its only use would be ice racing i have a 06 400EX for regular use but i know the motor is done right it was done by Team 19 powersports here in wisconsin with new tranmision clutch everything but yea i think im gunna get the 450 it an 05 but it has the updated crank and the motor was completly donre in 08 and only riden an hour sience thanks

i would def get the 450r, even better that is has an updated crank and fresh motor, if it was done right!

Bingo... lol... that is absolutely right...

And furthermore to the original poster, the seller of the 440EX is lying through his teeth to you. No 440EX on gas or race fuel will develop 50hp.... 40hp maybe... getting close to where a stock 450cc will start off before mods... and the 440 will be maxed out and still won't deliver quite as fast.
