Picked up a new to (to me) 416 cylinder and a 87mm 10.8:1 JE piston for $100 I have to replace my base gastket so I figure ill bolt this up when I'm done. My question is should I use permetex or rtv on the gaskets when I put it together or just use the gaskets? Also will 93 octane be enough to run in it? Thanks

Dont use rtv, just the gaskets.

93 should be fine once jetted correctly.

yes, you will need to rejet.

This is a good basis to start with: http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=445695&highlight=jetting+placement

So with a slip on, a uni filter with lid on I should start around 170 main and 42 pilot? And the needle on the 2nd notch down? Sorry for all the questions I had my jets picked out then I got this 416 stuff so now I'm lost

yes you should start with that jetting. maybe a 172 instead just to make sure you are running a bit rich before getting on it hard.

What's putting the needle on the second notch from the top do? I noticed in that thread in only recommend it on 416cc's

i'm guessing the sparks timing key will not work well with almost 11:1 compression.

nah, probably not even with 100 octane.

i will do some experimenting of my own this summer with all of them but i doubt it will work without 110. check out wheelies thread for exact info on what to run with what setup.

sorry i guess it was easier to find.

my suggestion 3 degree 100 octane, 6 degree 110 with 11:1 octane.

just how i would do it if it was my machine.
